No combat healing

  1. I was thinking of an rpg that does not have any sort of healing/reviving in battle.  Outside of battle the user can heal quite easily.

I was curious what the community thinks of this and if this could actually work.
  2. It would be easy to do, I don't know how the players would take it though. Depends on how the rest of the game is set up I guess.

For healing items you would go into the database and set them to "Occasion" > "Only from the Menu".

For the healing skills you would do the same thing.

I know how to do it.  I mean more about the difficulty of balancing and if players here would be turned off by it.

I was thinking of replacing healing with damage mitigation and the like.
  4. Tanks, DPS, and Healers.  It's a holy trinity for a reason.

Seriously, though.... I personally like it.  There should be ways to mitigate damage in combat.  Strategic use of buffs and defending, if that's in your project.  Sounds like to could create some deep combat, if done right.
  5. If the way battles are set up justify the lack of healing or something like that, I'd say that'd be fine as long as healing is covered on the map or whatever.

The thing to remember, though, is that forbidding healing in-battle to 'add extra challenge' might just make things more frustrating if you don't do it a certain way. Just my viewpoint, though.
