Is there a way to add more tile tabs then just A-E

No, it's just A-E. It's hard-coded.

However you can add more tilesets for use in different maps.

As said, you cannot add tiles beyond the basic structure. What people do is decide which tiles they need in which map and make tilesets according to that decision, using different tilesets on different maps (only one tileset per map possible).


If you want to combine tiles from different tilesheets and don't have enough slots, then you need to use an image program to edit the tilesheets. This is usually called "frankentiling", please search for that word if you want to know how that is done.
