Hi, person who may be reading this. So, I already have XP. But there are very few resources for it in the modern day, so I was thinking of buying a newer version (Ideally durning the Halloween Steam Sale). But I am stuck between MV and VX Ace. I have kinda gone forum surfing and I found a few posts about it, but not many are actually relevant for what I require (especially since most were written in the hay day of MV, so they were rather biased). If bugs or age are one of your reasons for your choices, I am totally fine with both (I bought XP willingly after all). Here are some of my reasons:
Pros for MV:
1. Side view battle system, which I really like.
2. Support for Android devices, which I would really like to use to export it to my friend because she doesn’t have a computer (parents and stuff).
3. Still being updated
Cons:
1. Very few pony resources made for it, especially ones I would like to use.
2. MVFU shutdown, which makes it hard to convert the resorces mentioned before to MV compatibility.
3. Lack of JavaScript knowledge.
Pros for VX Ace:
1. Many VX Ace pony resorces avalible and many still being made.
2. Many resorces in general.
3. More tutorials out there.
Cons:
1. It supposedly gets a bit angry when your not specific with it.
2. Only two layers, which limits my map making ability.
3. Hidden classes?
Anyway, I can only pick one. So, if you could tell me, like, a reason for your choice that would be great (or you could just vote in the poll and not say anything, that’s good too). That’s all I have to say. If I make my choice I will edit this post here. Thx!
Edit: In the end, I purchased MV. It is actually really cool. Thank you, people who participated for answering the thread and helping me decide. That is all!
MV or VX Ace for my MLP Fan Game

If lack of Javascript knowledge is a con against MV, do you have RGSS3 knowledge? If not, that should also be listed as a con against Ace.
Resources created for Ace can be used in MV. I have created a plugin that lets you use 32x32 tiles in MV, so anything for Ace will work. However, if those resources are based on the Ace RTP, you would need to own Ace in order to use them in any engine.
Ace has 3 layers, not 2. You don't have control over the layers in either Ace OR MV.
You can get scripts to give Ace a side view battle system.
What is "it supposedly gets a bit angry when you're not specific with it"? And what is "hidden classes"? Seems like you're not really sure on those things anyway, so why list them as a con when you don't know enough about them? If you're referring to the fact that MV's core scripts are available for modification but Ace's aren't - there are many games that have been produced in Ace despite this, and unless you plan to do something really weird, it's not something you should be even looking at. Ace's classes are no more hidden than XP's were.
If you want to deploy to Android, then you only have one choice.
It is easier to change the resolution / window size in MV than it is in Ace. The Ace window size is limited. Ace is cheaper. MV is currently on sale, I think I saw someone say.
Download them both and play with them. See which one you like better. The Ace trial is 30 days, and the MV trial is 20 days. If your time is limited, don't download them both at the same time - use up the trial in one, then start the trial in the other. -
Honestly I would go with MV just because that's where the main focus is at, more flexible with it's programming and like Shaz has said any resources that Ace can use MV can use as well. Why not cover all of your bases and get both? There's a Humble Bumble sale going on for the next couple of weeks where you can get both Ace and MV and a ton of resource packs for both for $50 USD. Now's a better time then never to grab them.
