  1. Hi there!

I was the composer for a couple of discontinued fan games called Chrono Ark and Chrono Crisis. Ever since I have released the music for these I have gotten asked by people from time to time if they can use any of the music for their games or projects. And the answer is of course YES, please do! They're free to use and all I ask is that I'm credited for it.

There is so much original music here in so many styles for so many purposes, if that is what you're looking for I'm sure you will not be disappointed. There are also of course some arrangements/covers of music from the Chrono games being that these fan games were meant to be sequels, these are clearly marked in the song title which song has been used. There may be a couple of songs that sound Chrono esque, if that's the case I leave it up to you whether that's important or not.

    Chrono Ark - http://alexroe.bandcamp.com/album/chrono-ark
My work between 2009 and 2011. Mostly orchestral music with varying styles. 100 songs.

    Chrono Crisis - http://alexroe.bandcamp.com/album/chrono-crisis-2006-2008
My work between 2006 and 2008. Very electronic with orchestra here and there. 50 songs.

If you have not used Bandcamp before don't be alarmed. It says pay what you want but you only have to enter 0 and you can download the music in mp3 or lossless for free. Unfortunately I do not have the looped versions for any of these songs any more so I am afraid I cannot accomodate with that.

    Thanks for checking this out!

  2. Hey there, I only just recently got rpg maker, and will not likely complete anything worth mentioning...for years. BUT I'm that patient/persistent. That said, I'm also aware that many game devs put off music until way too late as an afterthought, and I do not intend to make that mistake...

Sooo... I'm kinda exploring free music for me to use as I learn ruby programming and RPG maker. I've only just clicked your link recently and haven't heard much of your work, but by "skimming" it, it seems very worthy indeed!

However I notice some tracks say (free) after them, are the ones which do not say such not available for our use?

What if the game dev intends to go commercial, are they still free?

In any case, your work deserves recognition, I hope it gets the credit it deserves sooner or later!

edit: I said I was skimming it but I do intend to listen to most songs in depth later (already astarted actually). Some songs remind me of the actual Chrono trigger too much and make me worry that they could get anyone who uses them into legal trouble, but they are still good work regardless.

I just advertised your site to some people in other communities btw, hopefully you get some creds!

edit again: oh you mentioned that.. sorry. I'm super multitasking here lol. finding free music to use, reading forums, and learning a programming language at the same time isn't easy =P.

But uhh, if we buy your album, are you ok with people using the music in it for games that they may release to others without you profiting? As I said I doubt I'll ever release anything for a really long time but it's better to know sooner or later how you feel about this.
  3. Thanks Ghaleon!

I perhaps should have been a little clearer about the tracks. So let me give you some examples from Chrono Ark:

1.Chrono Ark ~Echoes of Inevitability~ (with 'Chrono Trigger Theme') (free) - In brackets it says "with 'Chrono Trigger Theme'" because I use that song as part of the arrangement, 'with' just means that some of it is original and some of it is not. It is free because I don't want to create any trouble with Square Enix should that issue arise.

45.Breath of Wind (615AD World Map 'Chrono Trigger Wind Scene') (free) - This is a remix/arrangement of a Chrono Trigger song. Although there is interpretation it is not an original song.

22.Destined to be Immortal (Boss 1) - This is completely original and all my own. (Boss 1) siimply means it was meant to be the Boss 1 song for the game and nothing more. You can use it knowing it is my original creation.

Basically if it says (free) then don't use it, it contains music from Chrono Trigger or Chrono Cross.

    ----------------

And with Chrono Crisis (because that project was a bit of a mess) I didn't really know where tracks would be used. So a quick example for that:

    9. Fair to the Past ('Millenial Fair') (free) - 'Millenial Fair' is in brackets because it's the song from Trigger and this is an arrangement of it.

A song from this soundtrack with something in brackets or has (free) next to it contains music from Chrono Trigger (except the very first song which uses 'Time's Scar' from Chrono Cross and 'Dream Shore' from Radical Dreamers) and you should not use it.

    ----------------

I hope that is not confusing. Although some of the original work here is inspired by the Chrono games you should not worry a bit because even if it feels similar in places it is still my work.

As for commericial use, all of my original work from these soundtracks are ROYALTY FREE. You can use them with my blessing and not owe me a penny. All I ask is that you credit me for their use. Whether you are releasing a game for profit or for free, that's your prerogative. I always intended these soundtracks to be free even if the games were finished and released so it does not bother me. But if you happen to get filthy rich off your game and feel guilty enough to want to give me money I will not stop you haha.

Anyway thanks a lot again, I'm not expecting advertisement from this, I just simply want to throw people a bone with these.

  4. Wow, there are some really great compositions!

I'm sure you've been told before, but you are very talented.
