  1. Last spring I got a fancy pants DSLR camera. I've long been interested in learning photography and finally decided it was time. Sadly, I've had hardly any time to really get to know my camera, but I'm trying.

I had it out tonight taking some snapshots of our Christmas tree. I liked how some of them came out, so I thought I would post them here, and will post more in the future as my skills hopefully improve.

These aren't edited other than a bit of cropping on some. Thanks for looking!

I think this one would look better if those two lights in front were tucked behind.

My younger daughter's first ornament. They get one every year.

And this one for contrast. The same ornament, just different settings. The above one was shot with manual settings in place. This one was on the preset Macro setting. I would love to learn what accounts for the differences in color. But I love the color in both.

  2. Sweet stuff! I remember my first photos - they were macros too!

I've got a few photography books - I recommend the hardback one by Tom Ang that's blue on the top and bottom and spine - Can't remember the name though!

In regards to the orange/white, that's caused by colour balance :)
  3. Thanks hotfire! I will look into that book!

I've got some non-macros but they all have kids in them, so I'd rather not post them here. :)
  4. This officially made me feel Christmas. :) It's so sweet~
  5. The last one is a great photo!!!  B)   :thumbsup-right:
  6. Those ornaments are so beautiful that they make me want to cry.

I've used a DSLR camera before and I must say that yours is a fantastic piece of work.

Keep snapping up those precious moments! ^^
  7. These pics are eye-candy, seriously...I got a sudden urge to take some too when I'll prepare my Christmas tree.
  8. Thank you so much for your kind words all.

@Susan - This camera was my big splurge this past spring after saving up for a few years. :)

@Dalph - You should! I would love to see them!
  9. This weekend we went out early for a "Bird Walk" at our local nature center. It was early, early but great weather and a good chance for me to get some pics of the beautiful spring we are having. While my husband and oldest daughter kept eyes on the sky for birds, my little one and I were too enthralled with the beautiful flowers.

The sunrise was enough reason to stop for a minute on the way there.

  11. I love photographers because they manage to catch all those things regular people don't even see. I love your pictures and I hope you'll share many more with us.

    Beautiful!
  12. @nio - Thank you! And I loved the little cactus and it will always remind me of my little one.

@Alistair - Thank you for your sweet words. I hope to have many more to share as I work through a photography course this summer (hopefully). I feel drawn to nature photography so be prepared, lol.
  13. I'm a nature photographer as well :D

I suggest getting a polarizer to make your skies more poppy (o_o) and to bring out the different colours of plants a bit more~
  14. :) Thanks for the tip. I'm sure as I learn more, my to-get list will grow.
