    STORY

For the past few months the great metropolis of Laweh has been under attack by an unidentified group of violent activists. Nobody knows their motive, but their methods are unmistakable. They always strike in public, they are always in disguise and they are very, very flamboyant with their use of destructive magic.

In response to this, the administration of Laweh is in the process of drafting a new law which will outlaw all practice and teaching of the Paranormal Arts within the city. This in turn has led to a massive outcry from the citizens, as many are magic users themselves (a great deal of them aren’t even human). Tensions are peaking, and the city is teetering on the edge between anarchy and total martial law.

Truly, the excrement is rapidly approaching the cooling apparatus.

However, our hero, Raphael Archer, does not care. He does not care one bit. After a week-long computer game binge and one extremely vivid nightmare, he wakes up in the middle of the night to an empty stomach and a wasteland of an apartment. To overcome hunger and boredom, he must escape the deadly confines of Suburbia and travel to the city of Laweh to find his friend Squid, who owes him lunch.

That boy is in over his head, if you ask me. If I were him, I would have stayed inside.

    CHARACTERS

Note: This is not a complete list of playable characters. Many of the more secretive characters have asked to remain anonymous at this time.

    Spoiler

Raphael Archer - An irredeemable slacker with no sense of ambition, and no sense of guilt for his lack of ambition. He would probably rather stay home and play video games than go outside and be the main character in one, but he doesn't really have a choice in the matter.

Scraps - A renameable junkyard dog. Feel free to name after your own favorite dog for maximum friendship vibes.

Squid Knickers - Raphael’s friend, a fence and petty thief by trade; he lives outside his means in one of the city’s most expensive neighborhoods and spends his nights carousing around town like a d-list celebrity.

Zassou Blackresin - Stage tech for a popular theater group and violent arsonist. May or may not have connections to the criminal underground.

Dr. Thule - An insufferably sarcastic, drug addicted young ‘philanthropist’. Most certainly has connections to the criminal underground.

Swami Sicknowledge - A gentleman hobo and purveyor of quality hints to those who find themselves in states of uncertainty.

Sunchild - A cloaked figure wielding a sword straight out of a fairy tale, currently the only person ever seen in connection to the magical attacks on the citizens of Laweh . LPD’s #1 suspect; considered extremely dangerous.

    THE WORLD

On the lonely little planet of Chaote Rock, the Island of Grok is by far the largest landmass, and it is where the majority of the story takes place. Civilization in this High-Fantasy world is taking its first baby steps into a modern era with interesting results. It’s not unusual to find computers inside a castle, or a full blown wizard’s lair inside a glossy modern apartment. Likewise, humanoids, animals and monsters share an uneasy co-existence together in a similarly diverse fashion.

The majority of civilization on the Island of Grok consists of four major cities, they are:

Laweh – On the southwest coast. A glossy, modern metropolis, Laweh is the self-proclaimed capital of the new world and it is without a doubt the most technologically advanced and ethically corrupt city ever seen. This is where the beginning of our story unfolds.

Phoraem- Center of the great plains. An anachronistic and slightly xenophobic monarchy noted for its fresh water fishing industry and its culture obsessed with honor and rank.

Grambatien- On the Northwest coast. A tropical city state with a culture deeply rooted in old world shamanism. Although not quite as technologically advanced as Laweh, its produce exports and tourist industries are lucrative enough to make it far wealthier.

Treabelle- On the base of the north eastern peninsula. The first city of man. The old world architecture, the abundance of classical art, the gorgeous weather and the historical significance lead many to call Treabelle the most romantic city in the world.

These cities are separated not only by cultural differences, but by vast swaths of enchanted, highly dangerous wilderness of every variety imaginable. From undead swamplands, to grasslands populated by carnivorous plants and capricious fae, to deserts containing unimaginable strangeness past all human comprehension, most places outside the cities are just too weird to travel through without a seasoned adventuring party. All commerce between cities, such as it is, is handled by airships provided by the city of Laweh.

    HINTS

    Spoiler
    • This game has a heavy focus on exploration. You will not get far if you avoid talking to people or interacting with objects.
    • This game was made for people familiar with the rpg genre. Battles can be fairly hard at times. This is not meant to be an item-hoarding, auto-attackfest. Plan accordingly.
    • Some battles can be won with diplomacy instead of violence, ala the SMT series.
    • You can die both in and out of battle, save often.

  2. That is the best World Map I have ever seen since my friend recreated Wario's Face in XP.
  3. Thanks for the compliment Kaiser. With so much room for creativity in these programs, it seemed like a shame to just go with a 'standard' type of map. Not that there is anything wrong with those, mind you, but I'm definitely going for a stranger than average atmosphere in my game, and I figured the geography should reflect that.

Do you have a picture of that Wario map? I'd love to see it.
  4. I agree about the world map. Very creative and well done
