  1. I'm not sure if it was an update that did it but when I went to do more of the game I am working on I went to the place it was saved and the usual files and RPG maker vx ace save file but when I launched this it was a brand new game I even loaded the data from inside the software and nothing. All my work has gone. I made a backup a very long time ago but I've lost so much. Does anyone out there know of some kind of miracle solution or am I screwed?
  2. Which version of RM do you have, and how did you open it?

If you have the steam version, you CANNOT open a project by double-clicking its project file - if you do this, RM opens but doesn't load the selected project, it still loads the last project. If that is the case, you need to open the project with the "open project" command after the editor is running - and the data probably still is in that position if you didn't move it manually.

Another possibility is if you're using the steam cloud and have different projects with the same game name - in that case the data might really have been lost because the steam cloud overrides data in projects with the same name, believing them to be the same and "updating" them.

There are a few more options, but we need to know more about your version and what exactly you did.
  3. Would need to know the exact details and any and all related info but it doesn't sound good.

    Always make a copy

    Backup!!
  4. It doesn't sound like exactly the same problem, but try some of the solutions from this thread (such as Restore Previous Version) and see if they help.

(Also, always try properly rebooting your computer and attempting to open it again, if you haven't already tried this.)
