    I N T R O D U C T I O N:

Linus a project focused primarily on plot. It follows the life of the main character, Linus Milhaven, from boyhood to adulthood. In truth, this is more of a character study than a traditional rpg storyline. There are no crystals to collect, no damsels to save, and no great evil to vanquish. It is simply a chronicle of the life of one person and the world that he lives in.

    S T O R Y :

For centuries beyond number, the sons and daughters of House Milhaven have been known as the most feared and respected knights and military commanders in the known world, and it has been said that whenever a Milhaven is born, soldiers throughout the lands bow their heads in reverence.
Linus Milhaven, along with his sickly twin brother Arilan, are the youngest sons of the current Milhaven generation. Despite his young age, Linus is already a burgeoning playwright and novelist. He is a socialite who loves to throw parties for his fellow noble friends. He also dreams of adventure, of sailing the ocean and traveling to exotic faraway lands. He is highly intelligent in matters of history, politics, music, and art, but there is one thing that Linus refuses any part of-- War.

Linus is the antithesis of his family's lineage. He has refused to ever hold a sword, and prefers to write about conflict than to ever be a part of it. Where his ancestors were born to lead men into battle, he prefers to shop for gifts and to visit museums.

But, as they say, it only takes one day to change someone's life forever...

In the summer of Linus' twelfth year, a letter arrives at his family's manor. It is a missive from the empress, and she has decreed Linus to be next-in-line to become the Lord Protector of the Empire, a post which Lord Teign, his ailing father, once held. Once bestowed upon him, the title of Lord Commander will in essence make Linus the leader of the empress' military forces once he comes of age. It is an incredible responsibility, and news of the empress' decision to bestow this title on 12-year old Linus, who is historically the least capable scion House Milhaven has ever produced, comes as a complete shock. It had long been thought that Sir Leigh, Teign's first-born son and Linus' half-brother, would inherit their father's post.

Having no choice but to carry out the empress' wishes, Linus is ordered to attend the Etonmarch Military College, a famed academy known for its brutal and unyielding training methods. Within Etonmarch, pupils must undergo harrowing trials which shape them into capable soldiers and war commanders. It is a place where children are sent to become military leaders, and not many live to see graduation.

During his time at Etonmarch, Linus must fight for his survival while wrestling with his own personal convictions, and will have to endure deadly trials and challenges, scheming rivals, and cruel betrayals in order to make it through the academy's halls with his life and soul intact.

    F E A T U R E S :

    - Dramatic storyline with nuanced characters and a fully-fleshed out world, chronicling the life of the main character from boyhood to adulthood.

    - Detailed and involved "Pursuits" system, which allows the player to experience side-stories that enhance the main narrative and offer up special rewards. Completion of certain pursuits affect the main storyline in different ways.

    - Affinity System which allows for the player to affect important NPCs' behaviour. Depending on how Linus interacts with certain NPCs, the storyline will play out differently.

    - Blacksmith system which allows the player to upgrade weapons in numerous ways.

    - Parallax Mapping with a focus on attention to detail and creating memorable-looking maps.

Thanks for reading the topic! If any of you have any questions about the project, let me know. smile.png
  2. Oh lord it's finally here. YAY.

A little overkill on the overlays, I think, but I love the unified tone of the look of your project. It's very apparent a lot of thought went into designing the aesthetics.
  3. Good to see this here, Bp. Looking forward to future updates.
  4. Ah, one of my favourite VX games is finally here. I'll be following this closely. :)
  5. Thanks for the kind words, everyone. :)

AK47 - Thanks a lot! I'm really looking forward to Legend of the Sarian Knights. :p

sabao- About the overlays. I know what you mean that they're a bit much, but they actually don't impede too much in-game, and they make sense when given the context of those maps. That forest is located near this ghostly well of weird supernatural energy and that's why it's supposed to be pretty foggy. Other maps won't have that amount of fog in them though. As for the aesthetics, ha ha, I really just try to use certain colours whenever I'm trying to convey a certain emotion in a map, which usually boils down to using the trusty ol' "Tint Screen" command. It's really not that complicated. :p

Luchi- Thanks! That means a lot coming from you. I've been having a lot of fun playing through the new Enelysion demo.
  6. I've been looking forward to this game for a long time. :) Great to see it over here! I remember you were using swapped tilesets in the last demo I played, but the parallax screenshots look amazing. I love the windows too; simple but effective (and I'm a sucker for serif fonts).
  7. Thanks a lot, Moonless! I'm trying to go for a bit of an elegant minimalist thing. :p
  8. Yep, yep! Sooner or later, I knew I would find you here, too. Haha! :D
  9. Looking good, i remember the old youtube videos and they were awesome.

Can't wait to try the new version!
  10. I loved the atmosphere and writing of the old version, so I am mad hype for this one. /follow
  11. This is, without a doubt, the single best RM game I have come across. Amazing writing, fantastic characters, stellar setup and execution. I've been a fan since long, long ago, and I remain a stalwart fan today. Good luck BP!
  12. Hey everyone. I've added a new support "bar" to the opening post. If you want to support the game, then go ahead and put Linus' signature into your own signature! tongue.png

    Thanks!

    Here it is:

  13. Hey everybody. Just thought I'd give a quick update. :)

The demo is coming along pretty well I think. We've just about finished the first dungeon. Hooray!

Anyway, I just wanted to ask if anyone here would be interested in joining my development team as a "tester" of sorts. Basically, I just need a few people to play the demo as it comes together and tell me what they think in regards to story, battles, general gameplay, and also to report any bugs or grammar/spelling mistakes they come across. If anyone is interested, let me know!

    Thanks!
  14. Sign me up: I'm always happy to lend a hand! :)
  15. I'll test it out. I've been following the game for a while now.
  16. Awesome. I'll PM you guys with the necessary details. :)
  17. The game looks really awesome. I'd be glad to lend you a hand on testing this. :)
  18. Awesome. I've sent you a PM as well, Neoz. :)
  19. I've finished the demo version you sent me. Check your PM for the lists of suggestion. Great job you've done. :)
  20. So, I was on a bit of a break for the past few weeks due to some personal stuff, but I've recently gotten back into the swing of things. Recently I decided to change the facesets I'm using. Before, I was using Fire Emblem edits, now I've decided on going with edited RTP-style portraits. I think they fit the look of the game much better.
