The story’s setting begins in our modern era (2014). A group of friends decides randomly they wanted to go on a camping trip over the summer break. It starts out as a normal camping trip, and through unforeseen events, the group of friends miraculously appeared in a different world. The group of friends has to survive in an unknown place with its own rules and politics. Get ready to fight in a non-serious linear adventure with characters based on real people.

    *Author's Notes

This was a project I started back in January (When I first got my copy of the RPG Maker) and was tinkering with the RPG Maker. This is my first game so the quality isn't the best (but I am a whole lot better now) so keep that in mind. The reason why I never thought of uploading this game was simply because it was a game made for my friends and myself (we definitely felt nostalgic playing this game 8 months later). So after being inspired again, I polished the game (just so its playable from start to finish) and decided to work on a chapter 2 of this game. If there is positive feedback, Ii will definitely encourage me to finish this project through. Of course any comments and suggestions are definitely appreciated. :p

This area is what you need to know about the game.
    • This game is targeted to my friends which means less battles and more story. The main quest is more 75% story and 25% battle though there are also puzzles to throw in the mix. There will be side quests that will balance this out for the people who like the RPG aspect more.
    • Because this game is targeted to my friends initially, I added many inside jokes that my friends understand and many of the settings, people, jokes, experiences are all based on some kind of experience we had to face today in our lives.
    • The people in the portraits are based from real people (Us) hence the subtitle the “Story of Us” so please don’t criticize our persona too much, our personalities also match ourselves in real life though some personalities are greatly exaggerated just a little (Ex: Darick and his food).
    • This game only began as a quick project for the Main project (Legend of Newarth) and turned into a rather big project so the subtitle was later added though Legend of Newarth <Insert Subtitle here> will be another project that may happen in a different time.

  2. Hello everyone!  I'm actually one of the team-members helping my buddy here work on the game.  In fact, I'm Jacob in the game, as I am in real life!  I'm a part time programmer, and I help translate the game, fact check, test, and basically whatever I can do to help.  I hope you're getting excited, and I most definitely hope that you have as much fun as I did when I played.  It's going to be a blast!
  3. The game does sounds interesting.

Any indications as to when the demo will be available? How soon is soon? ^^
  4. Sorry, demo is up now. You arrived here to early.  :p

Had to wait for it to get uploaded to dropbox but now its available.
  5. Cool! I will try it out later! ^^

    Update :

Okay, I tried out the demo and I have a few criticism.

I can understand where you're driving at with this game, as you have stated in your intro but this is my feedback :

    - Your choices leading to only one right answer reminds me of Companions of Xanth. The differing cutscenes are a nice touch.

    - You could consider remaking your game as a visual novel style using illustrations instead if you mean to be telling a story.

    - The questions at the intro are definitely pointless. If you want people to try your game, you have to take out pointless materials.

    - The Blitz command script from Monogatari that you put in is way too difficult.

    - Considering that the actor sleeps after the first two battles, you should consider healing the character before the third. You have no option for healing anywhere. My characters died during the battle with the guard and I have not continued from there.

    - You will need to make your game more friendly to the people who intent to try your game, if you really want them to play it and give you feedback.

    Bugs:

    - Running the game at fullscreen will cause the game to crash after the Q&A introduction.

    Edit: typos
  6. Okay I read your review and I expect as much. Like I emphasis that this game was made with the idea of my friends (hence all the inside jokes) but I did wanted to open it to the RPG community. I generally think its a bad game but as my first RPG game it definitely feels likes a masterpiece.Even one of my friends (Darick) is really critical of the game and doesn't like that battle mechanics and just like you suggest, make it more into a visual novel game (where choices matter).

I made this game January-March (2014) and I feel like I can do so much better with it now. (Thinking of doing a whole remake on this.)

Thanks for trying it out, was really nice hearing it from this side. ^_^
  7. It wasn't all bad. It's basically about the user unfriendliness of the design.

The maps will need a lot of polish. Since your game is more about a 'story' it may be better for you to go down the visual novel way.

You can still have battles even if you are using the visual novel approach.

It was a pretty good effort, by the way.

The eventing I saw so far were solid.

And as I mentioned, it was nice that you placed an effort into making the result of each choice unique.

You will definitely be able to do much better as long as you keep at it. ^^
  8. I'm sorry for commenting just to say this, but the title name makes me think of a combination between Heroes of Newerth and League of Legends for some reason xD

    I have no idea why...

That aside, I will make sure to try this out when I have some time :)
  9. TL;DR  We're taking the story and making a new game!  Any suggestions on the old game are welcome, as it will help us make an even better second game that has a similar story, but presented differently, and we think better.  Thanks for your help, and continued help!

Hey!  It's good to see some responses everyone had here so far, so thank you for them!  I know Ramil and I both appreciate it!  I wanted to go ahead and explain our goals for the future of this game as we move forward:

We really enjoy the basic arc of the story, the very core, that centers around our little group of friends.  The deep-seated "demons" as we'll call them here, have real, if exaggerated basis in our own lives.  The stories that will be told in the game may not be the real processes we undertook to face them, or continue to face till this very day, but we hope to at least showcase the cause why we can continue to move on or how we finally and decisively took down these demons.  To sum everything up, we like the story, so we want to expand more on it.

Why do I say this?  After reading Susan's posts, (Thank you for the comments once again), and play-testing again, Ramil and I have decided to go ahead and take the base story, and put it into a different setting.  Basically, we're taking others as well as our own feedback, and we're making a new game, one that is a bit more relevant, and one that tells the story we worked on in this demo a bit better.

The details of the new game are simply WIP at this point, as we just planned this yesterday, but we thought starting from almost-scratch was the best choice for us.  As a wise teacher once said to us, "Sometimes, it's better to just nuke it and start over then trying to save a dead project".  A lot of the tiles, characters, and story will be the same at least, so it simply lets us put this in a setting that makes sense for all of us to be in, while still giving us room to be fantastical about it, and give it a unique quirk that lets us, the characters, tell the story as if some of the "demons" actually overtook us completely, in some way, shape, or form.

I hope you're excited as we are for this new way of presentation!  We've been brain-storming for a few hours now, trying to find a good way to tell it, and we'll get Darick involved in the process here soon once finals are all over at our respective colleges.  (Note:  Kill me now finals... *cries*).  Until then, this demo exists, and if you have any suggestions when it comes to everything, we'll keep taking feedback into consideration for the next go at it!

Thanks for all the help everybody!  It means a lot you've taken the time to play/read anything of ours.  We're going to work hard to make the next version, and make it with even more polish then ever!  (Ramil, I'm doing the dialogue this time :p ).  Now, if you excuse me, I've got some papers I haven't started on due tomorrow!  Take care!

You know, I was wondering why that name has been ringing a bell in my ear this ENTIRE time.  Jeez louise, I never made that connection!  XD

In any case, thanks for checking it out!  Let us know what you think, we'd love to hear! :D
