The game, like many of my horror games, will try to scare you without

too many of the typical "screamers", instead relying on atmosphere and suspense.

  2. So far it looks awesome, can't wait until you have a demo or something! I'm looking forward to seeing how you avoid, as you say, the typical aspects that games like these tend to contain. Nice work.
  3. It will not be completely devoid of that type of thing, but I will do a lot of build-up before and try to keep them as classy as possible, so no screamer behind random doors or that type of scares.

It's not like screamers are all bad, it's just a matter of how you implement them. Either way, the focus will be on atmosphere, not cheap scares.

Demo will be up at a later date (probably when I finished around 40% of the game).
  4. Demo should be out in max 1-2 weeks now, probably earlier.
  5. Uploaded a demo.

Download in main post, and feedback would be appreciated.

Puzzles too hard/easy? Should I even have puzzles in the game?

    How is the sound design?

    The visuals?

    The story?
  6. what moves? looks pretty nice, though I ain't really a horror fan...

PS: Are those your own custom made graphics? coz I don't see any credits for graphics. :)
  7. Yes, those are custom graphics.
  8. The last week I haven't actually added much new stuff. Instead I have been working on a area that I love in horror games. Ambient sounds. If you ask me, this is the difference between a good horror and a great horror. It's the kind of sound that nobody will ever thank you for adding, but it adds SO much to the experience.
Try playing virtually any great horror game without the sound and you will see what I mean.
I just love those distant moans and groans, buildings that creak and insects that buzz in the background.
  9. The download is updated. I've been improving the ambient sounds and general BGS of the game (alot), I've also made small improvements (hopefully) in a lot of old areas, like adding creatures to the jungle, made some small changes to the intro, and a couple of other things. Basically I've tried to make the demo as good as it can possibly be. Apart from that, I've haven't really added much new stuff (finished the 3rd dream), but what's there should be pretty much the same quality through the whole thing. If not, feel free to tell me.
I'm feeling good about this release.
  10. Still working on this, screenshot as proof.

  11. I can't be sure if it was you, but I think I played game quite a while back (Merula) and this reminds me a lot of that. I like your surreal horror art style, it works very very well in a 2D RPG! :)  I've also read the said story by Michel Whitehouse, is this going to be adapted from the story, or is it going to be the complete exact story in RPG form? I'll be watching this thread, I really enjoy your work!

Edit: I confirmed it was you, I really really liked Merula!
  12. It's going to be adapted from the story.

I'm glad you liked Merula, that was my first game ever and although I will never finish it, it was a great learning experience.
  13. Game completed! Now to move it to completed games...
  14. Moving to Completed Games at OP's request. Please check the pinned threads and edit your first post to add any tags or extra requirements, if necessary :)
  15. Thank you, Shaz.

So anyone played the game? Any thoughts?
  16. Was watching a bit of a playthrough for your game here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3iFpR8w1DUI

Although I haven't played it myself, I'm really liking what you've done with the game. The atmosphere is very well done along with the custom art. I'm not all that into horror games but this is something I'm interested in trying out, so I think I will.. now.
  17. I played through the entire game. You did a masterful job of telling a good story and giving a great feeling of fear and apprehension without relying on the infamous screamer moments.

The soundtrack helped build up the atmosphere, and the reliance on common factors in relation to fear, without going overboard, certainly helped. It's a bit short, though, but perfect for a quick scare.
  18. Thanks, yeah I tried to strike a good balance. As for why it's short, well I just tend to make shorter games because I get tired of making the same game for years.

Short but well made, that's my motto.
  19. This game is amazing! Im so fascinated on how you did some of these things...

If there's anything in particular you're interested in I could answer it here (if it doesn't take too much effort to answer ^^).
