What I would like to Know is: is this Gemini legally usable with VX Ace Lite?
Thank you in advance for reading.
Is this program legal if used with RPGM VX Ace Lite?

Considering you can't even use scripts in Lite, I don't see the point in DLing a external script editor.Good morning everybody.

On a slightly different note, hey now, that looks like a pretty damn cool utility program. -
Well, I think this Program can edit the main script file externally (the one you open to edit the game normally).
I think that RPGMaker cannot realize that the main script file has been edited because it has been edited externally. -
Then? Is it legal with VX Ace Lite?
-
I thought you had to make/edit your scripts externally, and then copy/past it in the RPG Script editor?
Obviously if it accesses the RPG Maker VX Ace Lite program, thus letting you bypass a purposely blocked off feature, It's not allowed.
Considering you can't sell games with Lite anyway, I doubt anyone will be knocking down your door, "however" if you're gonna want to get into adding scripts, and such, I strongly suggest you buy the full version of Ace, It's worth every bit of the price, and it supports the company that develops the RPG Maker programs. -
From a legal side, it's a whole can of worms if it works - because if you can access the scripts directly (as the program claims), then you're circumventing an editor restriction, and that would probably against the EULA.
I'm neither employed by Degica nor a lawyer, so I can't give a dependable answer from that side.
However, there is a reason why I said "IF it works".
Ace and Ace Lite use RGSS3 - but that editor claims to be for RGSS and RGSS2 only, and there were a lot of changes in the scripts to enable the more powerfull database from Ace.
It might be that by using this editor, you can destroy the script datafiles (if they were saved with the wrong constants for example) -
Exactly! It would be very useful, but it actually bypasses the VX Ace Lite limitations!
-
Ok, thanks you For Your help.
I think the problem is solved :) -
I think you have missed the point of Andar's reply
It doesn't use the same programming language as Ace, so it almost certainly would not work
If it does work, it's against the EULA, so no, not legal. -
Oh, yes, I understood.
In fact, I'm not going to use this program: I don't want to make a mess for a script when I can work without it. -
What EULA? (Yes, this a serious question.)
And by the way, I really don't see a reason, why it shouldn't work with VX Ace. The format of the scripts file hasn't changed, only the extension.
Edit: I've downloaded it. It does support VX Ace. Explicitly. -

I briefly scrolled through the features, and over looked that.
Sigh what a shame, because it would be a very usefull program if it worked for RGSS3.
To OP: Yea ilegality aside, like others have said, it wouldn't be viable anyway, since It's not made to support RGSS3. -
Tokumei No, please avoid double posting, as it is against the forum rules. You can review our forum rules here. Thank you.
Anything designed to get around editor restrictions is against the EULA (so not legal). Since Ace Lite has no scripts, ANYTHING to allow you to modify scripts is getting around the editor restrictions. So it may or may not be okay with Ace itself (full version) but is DEFINITELY not okay with Ace Lite.
@cremnophobia, the EULA that appears when you install the engine and says what you may and may not do with it. You can also check on the product's download page - I think the EULA was reproduced there at some stage.
This thread is being closed, due to being solved. If for some reason you would like this thread re-opened, please report this post and leave a message why. Thank you. -
(This thread isn't closed. That seems to be a mistake, but since I don't regard it as solved, I prefer posting here than writing a PM.)
People are mentioning an EULA, but don't even bother to quote the relevant part which forbids editing files created by RPG Maker VX Ace Lite with another program. So I have to find it by myself, but I'm unable to find it and that's why I've decided to ask.the EULA that appears when you install the engine and says what you may and may not do with it. Here's the product page. I think people like Tokumei No deserve a correct answer instead of blind guesses that something might be or is illegal. -
Yeah, I didn't close it as the forum/browser were acting up for me.
We'll see if we can find the relevant text for you.
