Is the COAD tiles usable for commercial projects?

  1. I wouldn't recommend attempting to use that mish mash of tiles in a commercial project even if you did find out who COAD was. It would require you to own XP, VX and possibly VXA since I'm certain the previous two were used, and a bunch of other tiles in the set I can't seem to trace back. It'd be easier to find a coherent set by one consistent artist (which is why the sets in the store are so great- they're only by one or two artists, easy to credit properly, and available for commercial use). The Valkyrie Stories sets are a higgledy-piggledy jumbled lot. Hanzo did edit some of them but he didn't make another good chunk that don't have coherent credits.

Also I have no idea who COAD is, they're not among the names I know well from the tile art scene. If you're determined you might want to message Hanzo Kimura about it and see if you get a response.
  2. COAD is not really a person. It's a set, Coming Of Age Day. this set contains mack, xp and custom pieces. I myself wouldn't say that the official COAD-tileset is for commercial use.
  3. Considering that the set is mixed together from resources with varying policies toward their commercial use, I think we can call this one an altogether "no".
  4. According to this post. http://www.rpgmakervx.net/index.php?showtopic=31465

COAD tiles are free to use, Mack tiles are also free to use. So as long one owns all makers, commercial use would be a yes, wouldn't it?

EDIT: Found out the CoAD tiles are from IG maker. So if you own all copies of rpg maker, ig maker, it should be allowed for commercial use yes?

Still yet, all the tiles marked CoAD, minus the building tile marked CoAD, look just like XP or Mack tiles to me. I wouldn't use the building tile at all.

If a mod can clarify if CoAD comes from ig maker and if the cliff tiles are just edits from xp, that would be great.
  5. No, free to use doesn't mean free to use in commercial projects.
  6. The way it's worded. They are free to use in anything.
  7. The person who posted those tiles is not the artist. Neither is the source German blog where the tiles were found. So, you can't assume that their terms of service are the same.

I will try to look into it, but do not use them commercially in the meantime. Better safe than sorry. :)
  8. Yeah, they didn't even look the same from the link in my first post.

I'm mostly referring to the tiles in the OP, Lunarea. If you can look into those, most appreciated. But all I could tell was that they were edits of XP and Mack(and Hanzo posted all his edits are free to use in anything, he doesn't even care to have credit, even though I would.) Which I know are commercially available. If you look under "cliff 1" in that Hanzo post is where the CoAD comes from, which looks different than the CoAD that blog posted. Also it mentions Benben, but I found the link where it was posted any tiles he has made are free to use in any project(someone translated a French message from him. If need be, I can post the link when I'm off work.)

    Again, thanks Lunarea!
  9. I can tell you straight-out that unless you've bought a special license, you're not allowed to use the resources from one program (i.e. IG Maker) in another one (i.e. RMVXA) commercially. The default license only allows you permission to use those resources with the program they were bundled in, and this extends to modifications of those resources as well.

This is generally a very loose restriction that people won't mind too much, but when you're turning a profit from something these restrictions become massively more important. No one likes it when you use their stuff in a way they didn't permit and make money from it as well.
  10. You can use any of the RTP resources, including IGM, to any EB* engine as long as you bought the makers. If you bought IGM and RMVXACE, you can use the IGM materials on VXACE. And vice versa. There is no special license that is required.
  11. I own RPG Maker XP, VX, and VXace. I was just looking at the cliff tile set 1, on Hanzo's tilesets. And it seems all he did was edit XP tiles(and by edit, change the hue/saturation.) I searched all over, and found nothing that looks exactly like it. He posted anyone can use it, and he doesn't even want credit anymore(which I still would.) So I was just wondering if using that Cliff set 1 was okay to use since I own all 3 RPG Makers.
  12. Note for using VX Ace RTP with other RPG MAKER products.

The materials included in RPG MAKER VX Ace RTP can be used with other RPG MAKER products from Enterbrain as long as you own both RPG MAKER VX Ace and other RPG MAKER products. For example, if you already own RPG MAKER VX and you want to use any materials included in the VX Ace RTP with RPG MAKER VX, you need to purchase and own RPG MAKER VX Ace also.

Pretty sure this applies to all Maker EULAs.

    oh and this:

Yes, you can distribute games you created with RPG Maker XP/VX or IG Maker, using its included (or added on) materials, as freeware or commercial ware. You are also allowed to modify the materials with other software such as Photoshop, provided they are only used within RPG Maker or IG Maker software, and not sold/or distributed. You can also include your own graphics and music if you wish. Please ensure that those games do not include any material which infringe others' rights.

Please note that any modification of the exe, dll, or other game files generated by RPG Maker or IG Maker is forbidden. Also, you may not use the materials included in the software (or add-on package) within other game engines or software.

True enough. But I am doing my own edits to them. Don't want exact replicas.
  16. I would have hit the dislike button there. Sorry but I wouldnt want those to be everywhere.

and Is there any more coming of age tiles besides the original set? I have never seen any more IG Tiles like that released since then. and that was a while back.
