  1. Have any of you guys ever thought what it would be like to have a boss fight take place on a map instead of a battle scene? Like for example you need to hit 4 switches while outrunning the boss sprite. In my opinion cool things can be discovered this way. What do you guys think?
  2. I've played a game in XP where it was executed well... though it can be a bit difficult to know what to do sometimes. One good thing they did was let me save before the boss like any game, so I could rethink strategy.

If you look at Zelda, you will see that they do not let you enter till you have an item you need in the fight.

So yes, it can be done and it is fun if done correctly.
  3. You can execute a boss fight in a form of a puzzle or a mini-game. It's quite doable in RPG maker. I've done that for many boss fights in one of my games and it was a lot of fun to try out.

I am not a fan of on-map combat though. With RM games, more often than not it ends up just being a button-mashing hack n slash with no strategy whatsoever.
  4. It has been done before, you just need to run your grey mass a little harder to think up cool ideas for that stuff.
