While a lot of fun, the game is very unbalanced as far as gold goes. I can not progress through the game because of lack of gold in the game to buy the items I need.
Catch, the game is compressed. Fine dandy.
how do I give myself a ton of gold?
I might try Art Money, but if there is a better way like a save game editor or whatever. These have to be fixed stats.
In no way am I trying to pirate anything, I paid for the game like 5 bucks from the dev as a beta test and he cannot be reached. The game according to him is finished, but wanted me to let him know how to tweak it. Now he is nowhere to be found.
*update*
artmoney does not work for this purpose
I wanna cheat at a particularly hard game

If you do not have a Ruby installation locally that can read the serialized Ruby data contained in the save file, you're pretty much out of luck. While it's certainly possible to cheat, it's a little bit difficult to do so for the average player.
That's not to say that it's impossible -- it isn't. It just takes a little bit of work. -
If the developer didn't include a method for cheating, your only way is a cheat engine with its own byte analysis - and even in those cases, it's a lot of trial and error to find the correct adresses and values.
-
most values are 4 bytes (value x 2) + 1

What you are asking is for us to help you hack a commercial game. The answer is no - while not piracy, we also don't support people who want to get around the game's compression.
What is the game? Who is the developer? -

You sir, whilst a mod, are trolling my post right? Did you even read my post or just the title and BAM jump to conclusions? A SAVE GAME EDITOR or did you completely miss that part?
IN NO WAY AM I TRYING TO PIRATE ANYTHING.
Being a mod does not excuse being stupid or trolling. It just means you are a mod. I don't want to get around compression AT ALL. If you read the darn post to any degree you will find that I only mentioned it to SHOW THAT I CANNOT EDIT THE GAME TO GET MONEY!!!
What the game is and who it is is irrelevant. I think you owe me an apology. If I wanted to pirate it, there are a number of ways to pirate RM games.
<snip>
You are rude to me in every post I ever make. Do you go out of your way to be this mean to everyone or do you have some vendetta against me?
kiss off m8. bloody hell -
If you did read it correctly, Shaz said that it was not piracy
The answer is no - while not piracy, we also don't support people who want to get around the game's compression.
What Shaz was saying was that we do not support talking about trying to hack into game files -
Good grief, way to overreact. Did you read MY post or just the first sentence and BAM jump to conclusions?
Get a grip on yourself. When have I ever been rude to you?
In fact the only thread you have ever posted in where I have replied was to say your post was NOT deleted as you'd accused, and to suggest you check a bit more carefully before making accusations against mods. Show me another where I've been rude to you.
And while I worked for that company on some of those games, they are not MY games, so you're threatening someone else, not me. -
not hacking into game files whatever delete the post if it makes you this queezy. I am not a pirate and I pride myself on NOT being one. I bought all of your games shaz. Love your work.
-
Editing a save file (especially if it's compressed or protected in some sorts) is hacking into it... and no one said that you are trying to pirate it
-
Again, they're not mine. I did not accuse you of piracy. I said we don't support hacking.
And again, what is the game, and who is the developer? -
@OP:
whenever something special is requested, we have to check not only the original intention, but also how the information can be abused by others reading it.
My suggestion of using a background cheat engine to identify and change the gold value while the game is running will not give any special access to the game or it's resources. The worst that can happen from it is that the game crashes if you accidentally change the wrong value, and then you just have to restart.
Any way for you to open the game files themselves might be abused to gain access to the resources used in the game - that is why we can't allow any such description to stand, no matter what your personal intention for it's use is - others can use it as well.
So I suggest that you search in google for a general cheat engine that comes with an engine that allows you to search for game values in memory and use that to gain more gold in the game. -
You shouldn't edit the save files or content of someones game. For one it's hacking it, also no matter now unfair the game is it doesn't mean you should resort to cheating. Someone worked hard to put the game together, it's basically saying "f*** you and your game, I'll just do what ever I want". It's disrespectful to the developer. I bet you are the kid that buys all the game sharks so you can bypass anything you think is "hard", making you a horrible gamer and more so a lazy human with little patience, wanting everything now and not earning it like you are supposed to. This lack of patience can be observed when you attack Shaz because you didn't take the time to read the entire post. Take 2 steps back and takes your sweet time to do something, try to earn something for once.
@Shaz - I agree with your original statement, hacking bad.
@Andar - It's nice that you want to help but sometimes giving help can be a bad thing. (in my opinion) -
Is the developer someone here on this forum? How have you tried to contact them? What game is it? Perhaps if you let us know who it is then someone here might know them or how to contact them.In no way am I trying to pirate anything, I paid for the game like 5 bucks from the dev as a beta test and he cannot be reached. The game according to him is finished, but wanted me to let him know how to tweak it. Now he is nowhere to be found.

That's what I was wondering.
And let's not make a bad thing worse by making judgments on anybody. The OP is not trying to edit the game files, but rather the saved game files (I think). -
Unfortunately, your opinion requires the game to be solvable. I know of quite a few games that were abandoned in an unbalanced state where it was simply not possible to play them through.@Andar - It's nice that you want to help but sometimes giving help can be a bad thing. (in my opinion)
And then there is a very old story of a game I once played, at a time when the internet didn't exist and games were programmed in basic (it was on a Commodore C64, not a PC).
It was a very good text adventure game (unfortunately a bit short, even shorter than I assumed) until a point (appearantly) shortly before the final exit, where I couldn't find a solution on how to proceed farther.
After several hours of trying I finally gave in and began checking the source code - only to find a programmer's comment on that place in the game.
It said "there is no solution, this is the end - but wasn't it fun trying to find a solution?"...
If you read the OP's original post, he paid for a Beta-Version of the program, and the developer is no longer reachable.
That is quite a difference to paying for a balanced and completed game... -
For clarification I count save files as part of the game files. something that wasn't designed to be changed outside of in-game or testing means. That's what I was wondering.
And let's not make a bad thing worse by making judgments on anybody. The OP is not trying to edit the game files, but rather the saved game files (I think).
@Andar - I see your point but everyone has their own values system. Telling him how to do it would give him the tools to break other games. -
though one search on google using a certain keyword will yield exactly the same thing as what Andar said...
