Hi there. Edit: Hope this is the right place for this query.
After over an hour trying to find the answer in different sites and threads, I am finally at that stage where I need help. I am still very new to GIMP and all I want to do is import the RTP palette which I got here.
But this is a PNG gile and the GIMP documentation mentions it should be a "palette file" (pal). I try to Import a New Palette in GIMP's Palette Window, but I get an error message telling me that it is, of course, an unknown type of palette file.
Now I'm not sure whether to somehow rename the file (doesn't work) or find some kind of conversion method. I even tried dropping the PNG into GIMP's palettes folder hoping it would show up. Come to think of it, why are all the files here named GPL and not PAL?
It's probably something really obvious that I am missing >_<
I'm using VX Ace. Any advice would be appreciated!

What you have is a picture that contains all colors - you do not have a palette.
I do not know GIMP enough if there is an automatic conversion possible, but manually you could create a new palette by extracting each color from the picture - that is just a lot of work...
But the real question is - for what do you want to use that palette? The time when picture formats were limited in color selection is long past... -
Thanks for replying, Andar.
Well, I was hoping to use the palette to create RTP-style tiles. Or try to! -
RTP-Style has nothing to do with the color palette...
-
Well, with similar colours!

since what you're asking is more how to use GIMP and is only related to RPG Maker in that that's where you want to get the colours from.
