How to get your game out there?

  1. First off, I'm sorry if this is the wrong place to put this topic, but I couldn't think of another place to put it :/ If this topic is in the incorrect place, could a mod kindly move it? Thanks in advance.

Now that that's out of the way, I was thinking about how I could get my game/s some more publicity. Sure, starting a topic in the Project Development/Early Feedback is great. But how can I get some more attention?

I'm planning on making a website for my game, but I wanted to know if there was such a website where you could advertise games for free. I'm not talking about indiegogo or Kickstarter, since my game is free, does not need public funding and I do not want to make any money off of it. Just a website to advertise indie games for free where people can look at them. I know there's the RPG Maker website itself, but is there anything else?

    Thanks in advance.
  2. IndieDB (where later on you can take it to Desura).

GameJolt (if your game is free).

Um... something else? These are the ones that I know of.

These two are fine, have good, pretty active, pretty big communities, are completely free, can host your files, give you the option to create a game profile/page. And best of all, their communities include gamers! So you can start to be in touch with "your customers", if we can call them like that.
  3. I've heard that you can post it on http://bigfishgames.com and it can still be a free game. They supposedly have lots of traffic on there site so lots of people will see your game.
