  1. So for my 100th post I wanted to share something special with you guys. I hope that you enjoy it:

If you've been keeping an eye on my posts you'd notice that I use a lot of Extra Credits' videos as explanations or advice. That is because I agree with them on a lot of things.

Recently they've posted a very interesting video that I want to share with you:

The video is about history and how it's portrayed in video games. I'd like you to watch the video and then think of the statement at the end of the video: That RPGs are a very good medium for doing historic games as discussed in the video. I'd like to hear your opinions on the video and the topic discussed in it.

Some other questions you could also answer if you want to:

    • Would you make an historic game/RPG?
    • Do you think there are any good historic RPGs?
    • Should history be taught by games?
    • Do you like historic games?
I hope you guys enjoyed the video.

    Nuke out!
  2. Oh Extra Credits! They are good!  :)
  3. I love historical games, and do think they could and should be used to teach history, not as a replacement for current methods (though they are far from perfect), but as a supplement. I have been thinking about my next game being historical (don't really want to go into more detail then that at this point).

I actually cannot think of an RPG in a historical setting.
  4. I haven't played any decent historical RPGs. I'd love to, though.

An RPG set in pre-Roman Britain, just as the Imperial Legions arrived, might make for a good RPG. As would one set during the Hundred Years' War; there was an RPG RTS type game set during that conflict, but it wasn't all that good, and it wasn't a fully fledged RPG.

There are a lot of historical events that could become decent RPGs. I guess, what puts many developers off of creating such a game are the historical facts. More often than not, games based on history get things wrong, or they outright fabricate things for no real reason; Rome Total War did this with military units.

Games could be a good medium in which to not only revisit historical periods and events, but to teach the player a fact or two regarding those periods and events.
