This is where I should have started, so... hi everyone? :)
I'm a little shy with communities and people so don't mind me being awkward.
Little bit about me: I'm an engineer, have some programming experience (sadly not with Ruby, but spent some time to learn the syntax), fairly good with art, absolutely horrendous with anything music. Also have a tendency to write wall-of-texts.
I live in Europe and my first language is not English, so please feel free to correct me on any mistakes. Used to lurk around gamingw.net, but never built up the courage to actually join the fray.
Favorite game is the Metal Gear and the Shin Megami Tensei (and spinoffs) series.
I'd love to use RPGMaker to tell my stories, but I realise I'm not ready yet - so instead I'm building experience by programming and putting together the system frameworks for those hopeful games in the future :)
Pleased to join the community and hope to be able to contribute some in the future!
Hi all!~

Hello to you to! Welcome to the community, lysnia! ^^
I doubt you'd need prior programming knowledge to use RM. I have zero knowledge in that area.
You can start of by checking out the relevant tutorials in the forums.
Here are some links in case you get lost :
Andar's Tutorials for beginners :
http://forums.rpgmakerweb.com/index.php?/topic/14727-a-starting-point-for-new-users-v08/
And the official tutorial (which is also linked to his topic) :
http://www.rpgmakerweb.com/support/products/tutorials
Dreadshadow also has a great tutorial demo that will help you get acquainted with the eventing system :
http://forums.rpgmakerweb.com/index.php?/topic/29370-free-tutorial-game-for-vx-ace-events/
There are also a lot of great tutorials located in their respective tutorial sections. ^^
You can download the VX Ace sample game to see what engine is capable of producing with just the default scripts :

Welcome to the community. I too am a shy one in communities, but these guys have a habit of bringing us out of our shell. It really is a great community and I think you will enjoy your stay!
