Help - Unexpected File Format

  1. I'm trying not to completely panic right now. I've had issues with my computer shutting down (seemingly) randomly (I'm pretty sure it's an issue with the battery and/or plug). Anyway, I was working on a map in Ace when it gave me a brief warning that it was about to die (it's kind in that occasionally I get a warning.) I quickly hit save so the work on the map would not be lost and the computer died before I could close Ace.

Now, when I try to open the game file, I get "Unexpected File Format". I tried to see what would happen if I played the game and I got this:

    GameFileError.png

I haven't really tried much as I'm afraid to try anything. It is only this project that is doing this, and it doesn't matter if I try to open it through Ace or through the file on my computer.

This is my main project, one that I was hoping to eventually go commercial with. Any thoughts or idea on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated.
  2. If you know what file is the wrong type you could possibly use a file converter to make it the righ tfile type. I use 7-zip.

Forgive me if i am and idiot.
  3. Your enemies.rvdata2 file appears to be corrupted. What is the filesize of the current file, and when was your last backup? If you haven't made any changes to the file since your last backup, you should be able to restore it fully. If you never made a backup, ;x.

I do have an idea that might fix it, but it also may not. If you'd like me to try, send me the file in a PM and I'll test something real quick.
  4. Okay, yes, I opened that file and there is nothing there (shows up as nothing but 0's). I have an older version that I opened the same file on and there was actual data there. Since I've not done anything as far as enemies go since that older version, do you think I could just replace the corrupted file with the older one?

Also, another possibility: I use Dropbox for this file so that I can go between the laptop and my desktop. I might be able to "rescue it" if I can prevent the desktop from updating this save with the error. That is, if fixing the corrupted file wouldn't work.

Edit: Tried replacing the file, worked in that I didn't get the same error, but I still got a similar error (instead of 43 it's 44 now). So I'm guessing there are multiple corrupted files. Off to see if I can stop Dropbox from updating on the other computer and salvage it that way.

Edit 2: Dropbox to the rescue! I've got it working now, this can be closed.
  5. Dropbox also has a version history, so if it updated you should be able to use the website to roll back the changes. Reference(sorry for bad text).

Edit: Also a line number-to-file conversion:

    Code:
    Actors.rvdata2Classes.rvdata2Skills.rvdata2Items.rvdata2Weapons.rvdata2Armors.rvdata2Enemies.rvdata2Troops.rvdata2States.rvdata2Animations.rvdata2Tilesets.rvdata2CommonEvents.rvdata2System.rvdata2MapInfos.rvdata2
