That sounds pretty bad. I have no idea what happened. I would suggest trying a Data Recovery software. In my experience, a prog called recuva(I think?) restored a LOT of material from a hard drive that I had thought lost. Do a google search for data recovery and read reviews and what not. some work well, some not so much. Try to find the old "*.rvproj" file.

how did you compress the file?
If you used the editor function, it should ask you for where to place the resulting file - which should have been different from your project files, because that compression is for distributing the results only.
If you redirected that compression to overwrite some project files, then this might have destroyed that file - but that should not happen unless you force an overwrite, the project is usually protected.
The editor itself never handles the encrypted files, and the original project should always remain unencrypted - encryption is only for the game distribution to the player, and encrypted games can not be opened in the editor.
So please, tell us exactly what you did (when you used what function and clicked where) and we can see what happened and how much of your project you can get back. -
OK everything seems fine after I restarted my computer somehow
And I compressed it via the program in order to make a test version that I could send to a friend and I dident mess with any actual files except copying the encrypted exe....still thought that scared the crap out of me and would like to avoid going through that again....if I just copy and paste the entire folder to make a backup would that work? -
Yes.if I just copy and paste the entire folder to make a backup would that work?

I'd recommend backing up in future,
My RPG Is backed up to my PC, USB and work PC! -
Shadowjeff201, please use meaningful topic titles in the future - use some keywords that will give us an idea of WHAT the problem is before we look at the thread.
