  1. Hey guys,

Normally I don't like to ask 'dumb' questions, but this one is rather important. So since June 18 I've been working on a game called "The Excalibur" which I had nearly finished. Now, I have no idea what I've done wrong but now whenever I go to open the RPG Maker VX Ace Editor and open that project I get a error pop up saying "Unexpected File Format", then the program shuts down and disallows me to continue anymore. At this point, I'm just stunned and disapointed in the thought that my game that I worked so hard to make and was almost finished is now broke or gone.

So please, if any of you know how to fix this problem, please, please, please tell me in this thread. I will be forever greatful.

    Thank you so much,

    Night Hawk
  2. Try to uninstall then re-install RPG Maker.

Have you installed another RPG Maker lately?

RP Maker VX ACE DOES NOT Run RPG Maker VX or XP.

    And Vice versa.

Tell me the file format of the project file.
  3. Came a cross this, hopefully it can help solve your problem.
  4. Alright, thank you. I'll it test try.

If it doesn't work well... back to the drawing board, I suppose.
  5. Wow! That worked! Thank you guys so much!

I do though, have another newbie question. I've watch a lot of gameplay of other people's videos and just about every single one, they have this text appear at the top of the screen when they enter and new map displaying let's say the name of town or village. Now, I've tried to do that with text and make it so that the player doesn't have to press the enter button to make it disapear, but when I test it out it shows up for a split second then fades. Now I know I'm not doing it correctly, could someone be so kind to tell me the steps on how they do it?

Sorry if my question is confusing, I've tried to explain it the best I can with my limited vocabulary.
  6. Press F1 when typing in the text, it should show you all the commands you can use in text. Among them is \. which waits 1/4 of a second, and | which waits 1 whole second. Use these to pause the text however long you want.

Also, what you are looking for are Map Names, and I think Ace has this built in, but I'm not quite sure, I think someone else can tell you about this. Otherwise, I'm sure there are scripts out there that do this. You can even use a simple picture with the name of the map drawn on it and show it upon entry.
  7. Thank you again for the help, I really appreciate it.

You may lock this thread now, my answer has been solved.
