Hello there fellow developers. I figure since I cannot currently walk (that's the last time I walk down stairs while looking at flowers across the street) I should take the time to finally sign up and introduce myself.
Let's see, where to begin.. I'm an aspiring computer programmer, and while I have played a few RPGs, it's not enough for me to consider myself an expert or anything. I do have some ideas for an RPG, though the first thing I came up with is the battle system and I don't really have a story or anything planned at the moment.
I won't go too much into detail about my idea ( I'll save that for the game project section instead of here) but the main goal is to create a game where a magic class feels like a magic class instead of just a way to target elemental weaknesses in enemies.
I hope we can get along, and I hope you guys don't get tired of me asking for advice, especially when it comes to scripting so I can bring my ideas to life.
Greetings

Welcome to the group!
I take it you fell down the stairs? Ouch... I hope it is nothing too serious and that you recover quickly!
What exactly do you mean by "where a magic class feels like a magic class"? -
Luckily I managed to lean on to something before I fell, but I did pull a muscle. When I mentioned the magic class I mean something that isn't just a way to target elemental weaknesses. I want to feel like a wizard, able to bathe the battlefield in flames, or flood it with water, as well as more utility based spells such as teleportation, mind control, light manipulation and other nifty things.

"Bathe the battlefield in flames, or flood it with water" huh? Setting a battle magic to target all visible enemies is easy in the database, but if you mean anything beyond that then you are going to need scripts and unfortunately I have no idea how to do much with those. Teleportation is also an easy one between wherever the player is and a specific point on a map, like "Fly" or "Teleport" in the Pokemon games sending you to right in front of the Pokemon Center. If however, you mean for the player to be able to pick coordinates instead of going to a preset designation...I have no idea.

Yeah after thinking about it some more, it seems like my ideas would work much better in an action rpg or a strategy isometric one, of course I haven't the slightest clue as to how make an isometric rpg in rpgmaker currently. My friend pointed me to an older RPG called Lunar which has some battle features that also would work well with my ideas, like setting up a party formation on a grid before battles, or AoE's centered around the enemy you select.

I haven't actually tried it yet, but my game idea is a tactical-RPG and people recommended this to me.

I will be totally honest here, I have yet to go over it in detail so I don't know precisely what it does or does not allow. -
Ohh this looks like just what I need, thanks! Seems like the hardest thing will be balance, oh and the artwork...

Glad to be of help! ^_^

Welcome Tamzaiy. Have fun here.

Thank you! Ahh I was wondering, if I had a script in mind and was looking for assistance on getting it started, would that go under the Learning Ruby and RGSS section or would it go under the script support section?

Really...I'm not sure...
