  1. Hey guys! As an up-and-coming indie publisher (does such a thing even exist?) I took the opportunity this weekend to visit the good folks at www.greenmangaming.com !

(I also attended the London MCM comicon, but that's a different story)

It was great! They're lovely folks, and it's nice to put names to faces rather than just communicate via email. We discussed a number of marketing opportunities, not least of which a 'franchise' sale every once in a while that will see the New Reality Portfolio get some decent front-page exposure. They were also very impressed with the direction of the Publishing side of my business; so much so that they didn't even have any advice for me (this is a big company too, and might well be performing over Steam before too long), which is a massive compliment.

Their advice: Carry on what you're doing.

Awesome. Obviously I'm still buzzing from the whole experience :D
  2. I'm glad that you had such an encouraging meeting with them.  I am curious, though, about why you think that they could outperform Steam before too long.  Would you care to expand on that?
  3. I dig GMG :)

Hard to say specifically. Just an insight into how creative GMG are with their marketing and encouraging they are of their community. For example, leave enough reviews on GMG and you earn credit which can be used to buy games with, which is awesome! Steam tend to just run the same old sales and promotions. A large portion of Steam users are disgruntled at how predictable the entry barrier has become, the influx of poor titles, and so on. Though I guess they're making potential progress with their new user/group-curation system.

I'd say this is just a hunch, but it's an insightful hunch ;)
  5. They have PlayFire, too. And great looking store pages.
  6. I really like Green Man Gaming, but I don't see them outperforming Steam.   Steam is a little slow on getting to what people want, but it's huge, changing something like Steam takes a lot of time.  Valve is a community even with as big of a company as it is, it listens to its employees and its consumers.

Glad you had such a great meeting with them though.

We need a new franchise in the rpg world. Wild Arms, Breath of Fire, Dragon Quest, SaGa and Lunar have all been quiet for awhile, and Final Fantasy just doesn't have that same pizzaz it once did.

I can't hope to ever compare to those titles 0.o

GMG is already the second-largest distributor in the world. Time will tell I guess.
