Game data corrupted?

  1. Hi, everybody.  This is my first time posting, and I'm pretty new to this community, so forgive me if this question and solution has come up before.

I recently bought RPG Maker VX Ace from the humble bundle, and for the next three or four days I began hammering my way through a throwaway game that would act as a tutorial and get me used to the engine.  However, in my amateur awkwardness I saved my main project file inside another project file (one that I used to mess around in the editor with), and today, I somehow made the mistake of "corrupting" it.  I hit new project just to get a few stills of my characters walking (for a test) and when I attempted to return, I came back to a test map I had made before I started making my initial project.  Now, every rvproj2 I open keeps bringing me back to the ancient project.  It sucks, because I can see all the necessary game files I put together in the Data, Audio, Graphics and System folder.  And If I use a Game.exe and use one of my save datas, it even loads up my game properly.

Does anybody have any ideas that could help me out?  Sorry, if that read a little testy, by the way.  It's like the project's right in front me, but I can't get to it...

  2. How are you opening your projects? Are you going to the folder and double clicking on the rv2proj file? Or are you opening RPG Maker and then going File > Open? Try it both ways. I do know that it seems to remember which project you saved last and go back to that, but I just can't remember the details on when it messes up and when it doesn't.

I know I navigate to the folder of the game I want to edit, and double-click the rv2proj file and have no hassles.

I'm also not sure if the Steam version has a unique behaviour in this area as well.
  3. I've tried both ways, and both open up to the same project.  And, unfortunately, in an effort to clean up the folder(s) I copied and pasted a few things and moved everything around, leaving me with a giant mess of nothing.  Hopefully I didn't make this worse.  haha
  4. lol - if it were me, I'd start over, being VERY careful to keep projects completely separate. I'm sorry for your pain.
  5. Thanks, man.  I'll just move on to the next one.  It wraps up the tutorial nicely with a stern: "Don't mix your projects."  haha
  6. Tsukihime done a script that records all your .rvdata2 files every time you press play. Cant remember what it was called though.

What this means is that you can keep a record of all data that was EVER in your project. Just gotta remember to delete the file before you encrypt and compress the game.
  7. That sounds wildly useful.  Thanks, man!
