In the world of "Gaia" - a realm on the verge of a magical industrial revolution - a nation known as the Empire wages a long and brutal war campaign against its adversary to the north: the Republic. Its leader, King Rowan, seeks a way to bring an end to the war and claim victory for the Empire.
In the remote village of Ashvale, a young fox boy named Leigh finds his home in flames - attacked by a man bearing the sigil of the Empire he lives under. On the run, he meets and befriends Pierce (a stoic wanderer from the Republic) and Miah (a cheerful yet mysterious magician), and learns about his destiny as the last remaining Celestial - those who are descended from both the mortal Gaians and the ancient Divines.
The ragtag group set off on a quest to help Leigh gather his powers as a Celestial and confront the King who relentlessly pursues him. Along the way they will learn to overcome each of their inner struggles, uncover the truth behind the King's plans, and will reveal secrets that could change their lives forever.
Main Cast
Leigh - 14 years old, a fox-folk boy from the village of Ashvale. His parents died in the war between the Empire and the Republic when he was very young, and the village elder Iiko took him under her care. He trained under her to take over as a Watcher - a defender of the village - until it was destroyed and he was forced to flee. He often struggles with his own anxiety and self doubt. Leigh's weapon of choice is a sword, with a skillset focused on maximizing damage.
Pierce - 19 years old, a gryphon from a small canyon village in the Republic. Pierce has been wandering the Empire in search of someone, to no avail. After rescuing Leigh from guards, Pierce listens to his story and lets him tag along. Pierce keeps a stoic and sometimes aloof attitude, and usually has trouble trusting strangers. Pierce wields a pair of crescent-shaped daggers, and focuses on inflicting negative status conditions on enemies as well as assessing enemy weaknesses.
Miah - 14 years old, a girl who stowed away on board the ship of the infamous Captain Sterling's mercenary crew. She assists Leigh and Pierce in evading capture, and decides to tag along with them afterwards. She has a bubbly and upbeat demeanor. Miah wields a mallet which doubles as a magical staff, and she excels at both magic and party support skills.
Gameplay
Foxblade Fable is a retro turn-based RPG adventure starring a cast of colorful animal characters, inspired by the Little Tail Bronx series as well as classic JRPGs such as Final Fantasy, Chrono Trigger, and Golden Sun. Combat revolves around an ATB-inspired system that takes cues from Bravely Default and Chrono Cross:
- Each party member has a time gauge that gradually refills, and can act when the gauge is full.
- Each party member also has "Action Points", or AP. Each battle, AP starts at 0 and increases by 1 each time their time gauge fills, up to a maximum of 4.
- All actions (attack, tech, magic, and items) cost some amount of AP to perform, except for Guard, which allows you to stockpile AP.
- Party members can also spend more AP than they have available, which will put that party member into "AP deficit" and leave them vulnerable until they recover the difference.
- Some tougher enemies have a Daunting state, a sort of shield state. This state will significantly reduce damage taken by the enemy until a number of hits have been dealt - hitting an enemy for weakness will reduce this shield faster. Eliminating an enemy's Daunting shield will temporarily stagger that enemy, leaving them vulnerable for several turns and giving you a chance to punish your foe.
