I'm finally making my formal introduction to the forum. I've owned VX Ace and been a forum member for several years now, and had XP for several years before that, but it's only now that I'm finally ready to begin my RPG-making career. I'm one of those people that has half a dozen creative projects going at any one time (not least of them my professional writing career), and I've been putting off using RPG Maker until I got some of the other stuff off my plate.
I have a number of game ideas. I started a couple Digimon fan games on XP but never finished them and have since abandoned the idea. Though I've done a little playing around with VX Ace since buying it I haven't seriously begun a game... until today. I'm not sure where my RPG-making will lead, but at the moment there are two main categories of game I'm interested in.
The Phantasy series will take inspiration from the old-school horror/fantasy stories I like to read. Each will have its own setting and story, though the games will share some common elements. The first game in the series - and the first RPG I'll have ever completed - will be The Sword and the Fortress, inspired primarily by the fantasy of Lord Dunsany. The game's setting is reminiscent of a medieval fairy tale, and I chose to do it first for its relatively simple plot. In the process of completing the game I can get used to the mechanics of VX Ace and show people what I can do. If people are interested in more Phantasy games I'll be happy to oblige and may make the series into a commercial venture.
I would also like to make another series called Lucid, involving a world of dreams and inspired by dreams of my own. I'm not sure yet if RPG Maker is the right platform for it (ideally the series would consist of 3D action games), but I might give it a shot. Unlike the Phantasy games, I would like to build everything in Lucid from scratch, and will need extensive help from the community (art and music composition are unfortunately not in my skill set), so I'll be putting off development until I'm better established in the community.
Thank you to anyone who had the patience to read all that! I hope this is the beginning of something great for all of us. If anyone has any comments about my plan of action, please let me know!
