Failed to load actor data?

  1. I don't know if this question is asked a lot or if it is just me, sometimes when I try to open a project with a custom script, it says 'failed to load actor data'. What does this mean? I need this fixed because a lot of scripts with a demo say get it from the project, but I obviously can't.
  2. It means that your windows crashed or was shut off before the file save on your project was completed, damaging the file that was currently saved (and any still unsaved). Alternatively, if you saved to an external drive the connection to that drive was lost (or the USB-stick removed) before the save was complete.

Make a backup of the current project file, try to restore the missing file(s) from a previous backup and check what you have lost and what could still be recovered. If you don't have a backup, try replacing the files (beginning with the project file, not the listed file) from a new project until you can open it.

If you don't know what crashed your windows, then use one of the backup scripts for RM and start hunting down the bugs in your windows - this error is NOT caused by RM.
  3. Are you testing just the script in a new project, or are you testing the script in the demo it comes with?

I ask because I know of a few scripts that no longer have active demo links.

If you are using just the scripts, you may need to add or edit your own image/data/etc. You may even need to check the script and see if it is searching for specific files/graphics/etc.
  4. I download a demo, play through it, then decide to add it to my project. I try to enter the project of the demo and this error comes up.
  5. That's odd. Did you try to re-download the demo as Andar suggested?
  6. Yep. It's still not working.
  7. Could you give me a link to the demo you are trying to use? I'll download it and try it out.
  8. Okay, I've downloaded it and tried playing it, as well as open the rvproj2 file. Both works fine. There were no error messages.

I tried to copy and paste the script, and it only shows 'Unable to find file: '.

A workaround, you could create a new project, exit it, then copy the scripts.rvdata2 from the demo to your project to get the scripts.
  9. I just figured it out, I extracted the files to another file and then it worked. I'm guessing it was because it didn't come compressed?
  10. no, it was because you can't run programs from compressed archives without crating problems with the path.

ALLWAYS extract a project (if rar/zip) or run the installer (if exe).
  11. But the demo worked, I could see all the files, and the RPG Maker VX Ace logo flashed on screen before the error. And it didn't say it was zipped or a .rar file. So I still believe my theory.
