  1. I have an image with a white background that is set to transparent. For some reason there is a small triangle that shows up as white instead of being transparent.
  2. then that triangle isn't white...

You set transparency by selecting the exact color to be transparent - and a pixel in 0% white is not the same as a pixel in 0,5% white/extremely light grey. If your picture has several variants of white and light grey - so near true white that you can't see the difference with your eyes - then turning white to transparent will not turn everything to transparent.

Your only chance is to reopen the image in an image program (like gimp or photoshop) and make the backgrouund uniformely white.

Or (if your image program supports this) turn the image into a PNG with transparency already set in the image program.
  3. Hmmm, now its working, I was using Paint to make the image and dont have a white thats so slightly off that it wouldn't be knoticeable by the eye.

Those slightly off colors are often created when you save in formats like JPG when the data is reduced
  5. You could switch to something like Paint.NET or GIMP (both free) that allow transparency, and avoid the need to choose transparent areas when importing completely.
