  1. Do you follow the crowd, or do what you like? Some people follow the crowd, such as (this shirt is in style I'm wearing it, this one I got yesterday nobody is wearing I'm getting rid of it.) Or do what you like? (I don't care if this shirt is in style or not, it's in MY style. What do you do? Do you follow the crowd? Or not?
  2. I... Buy my clothes at goodwill(completely by choice) I don't know where that puts me here.
  3. Well for me it's do what you like, unless i like something that other people like.. but i don't count that as follow the crowd !
  4. I wear my clothes until they're fashion again.
  5. I just wear whatever's comfortable, I don't really care who wears what! :p

    Same applies to other stuff.
  6. I don't give a single damn about the crowd. :D

"I am me" and I'm not a clone or part of an army, I have my own tastes and I buy and wear what I want...and what makes me feel comfortable. Be yourself always even if it's not easy.

Following the crowd (regarding these things) means giving up part of your personality.
  7. I do what I like. It's not even a 'beat of my drum' thing. I just concern myself with what works for me and suits me. When it comes to clothing, of course I like certain things, but flattering my shape is key. I don't care how cute a trendy top is if it makes me look like I'm smuggling a watermelon.
  8. Ummm....well.....I think that in some situations, a certain level of compliance to the expectations of others can be necessary. For instance, say a certain building required you to wear a particular kind of fashion of clothing, in order to gain entrance....see, i hate dressing up...but if a had need, and the means to gain entree into this building i would comply. It is not my nature to fuss or quarrel over something so trivial as that. Now....as far as my personal preferences for clothing, and what everyone else thinks of them....I DON'T REALLY CARE, lol. Don't get me wrong, i admit, I don't have ANY fashion sense what so ever. I just wear what feels comfortable to me. When i say that i don't care what people think about what i wear, i only mean that i don't care if their opinion of "ME" is based on what im wearing. I do try not wear things that might be offensive to others though. And another thing, i don't really care much for shirts with logos and trade marks/pictures on them...i do have some that i wear, but not many.

However, you weren't speaking only in regard to clothing i assume. You were talking about in ever area of life....which is a little harder to answer, but i can remember several times in the past when i just went with the group, so im not stranger to that.
  9. not, well maybe sometimes....
  10. I follow what I like, but my mom is a choice, you do not have... everyone else is wearing it, so I won't. I kid you, not.

I buy everything I wear that isn't black t-shirts, socks, underwear, and shoes at thrift stores. Great prices on a lot of stuff that just is in good shape.

I think the exception is that I have one suit that I got before going on a cruise that is really spiffy that I got from a nicer store. I do have some thrift store suits too though. Oh, and ties, because thrift store ties are atrocious 99% of the time.
  12. I follow the crowd, because that's your biggest market.

I also follow niches, but it just isn't as effective.
  13. I do what I like for absolutely everything.  BD   :rock-right:

I'm still wearing parachute pants. XD

Okay seriously, as a socially awkward person who plays Tetris while walking the school halls and playing Final Fantasy in classes... I really could care less about this thing known as 'Fashion'. Besides a few anime and video game shirts I own, they tend to be VERY plain (By that I mean it's just one solid color.)

And I don't care how much in still tighter jeans get around here, I want my comfy loose pants with large pockets (To put my game consoles in, obviously... and no I am not talking about the parachute pants.)
  15. I never follow the crowd, costs too much money!
  16. I do whatever feels good to me. Sometimes that will coincide with the trends of the day, and often it won't.

For most of my childhood and teens I couldn't for the life of me find clothes that I liked. Then somewhere around 2005-6 a new clothes-line was mainstreamed in Japan, and I really liked it. Then that become popular in Norway 3-4 years later, and I was still running with that style, even after it had gone out of vogue in Japan.

Now, I am all over the place. Personal style, and being true to ones taste will always mean that the congruence of your style will be in a constant state of flux. People who always try to stand out are no better than people who always try to blend in with the crowd in my opinion. Both these extremes are born from insecurity and other emotional biases.

Keeping it real, and personal means that you'll find yourself standing out at times, and sticking out at others.
  17. If you mean "Do I follow current trends in fashion?" then I don't.  I wear clean, comfortable clothes, usually a T-shirt and blue jeans or slacks.

However, if I wax philosophical and say "Do you follow the crowd in any way?" I think it's insane to carry that to its extreme and say "I never concern myself with what anyone else thinks."  Why?  Well, if that were the case, society as we know it literally could not exist.  In order to have things like electricity, running water, etc, there needs to be some degree of base social consensus, even if it is "I'll generally follow the laws and do what I have to to earn money."

Of course, there are a nearly infinite number of degrees between the 2 extremes.  So, I think the real question is this --- to what DEGREE do you follow the crowd (i.e. honor society's conventions)?   I think the only way one could not have to follow ANY of them is to live by oneself, without any human contact, since having contact with even 1 other human, even if it's just a grizzled trader who drops off supplies requires a bare minimum of honoring conventions, even if it is "Here are the 3 bear skins for the supplies I need."

In that extent, I'm pretty careful to follow almost all of the laws (who doesn't speed?) and have a strong sense of personal integrity so I try my best to follow through on what I say I'll do.  But I often accidentally ignore certain social conventions (Aspegers fun :p ) which means many people think I'm very nice but a bit odd.  Fortunately, I have close friends who don't mind. :)
  18. Depends upon which benefits me. Sometimes following the crowd might be useful, especially with things that are new. However, I keep my mind open, and deviate when necessary. I just like picking out things that work for me, popular or not.

Now if we're referring to clothes, I do like keeping up to date with certain fashions along with keeping my preferences in mind. Finding out what looks great and knowing what looks flattering for a certain body type is good to know. Not to mention, I like finding good designs as well.

Basically, I don't go to the extreme on either points, just whatever works for me at that time.
  19. Unless you're Brad Pitt or Megan Fox, you can't put on every trendy clothing you see and expect to pull it off. Fashion sense isn't just knowing what the majority thinks look good, but knowing that people come in all shapes and sizes, and what works for one person may not necessarily work for another.

If I'm following the crowd by wearing what fits me, then so be it. If I'm going against the crowd by doing the same, then no big loss.

Slim-fit clothing is what's popular right now, which is perfect for me since I'm a tall, thin guy; I've been rocking this style for ages, so I'm happy to flow with the crowd, as it were. If loose, baggy clothing became all the rage, then I simply wouldn't bother because I know I wouldn't be able to pull that off.
  20. My looks are hardly mainstream.

I have bracelets, rings and an expensive watch. Top of that I like to wear hoodies and very cheap T-shirts.

It might make me look feminine but that's the point probably plus I don't care if people judge my fashion sense.
