  1. Asking because I’m 25 and currently do not have a license as of yet. I’m just curious how other people got their licenses.
  2. Yes. At 18 in the US.
  3. Had drivers ed in school and got my license at 16.
  4. I got my license at 16, and started driving at 18 (couldn't afford a car until then). However, my boyfriend is 19 now, and has not even started his training. I feel like getting ones license is very freeing, and those who do not get one earlier, simply did not need it as much or were unable to.

Everyone learns new things at their own pace. ^.^
  5. I did not get mine until I was 28, honestly I feel like it makes me a better driver.

Yeah, I learned that those red octagon things are meant for you to stop, not rush through before the other person can be in your way. Honestly wish others would get their license so they would know.
  7. Got mine way back when I was seventeen. Started driving to school my senior year. Honestly, having that kind of freedom really helped out. I don't understand why people wait so long.
  8. Yup got mine when I was 16 too. Got my MDL when I was 21 and my CDL when I was 25.

Sad part--I don't use my MDL or CDL anymore :kaodes:

If you have no experience driving, maybe ask a friend if they wouldn't mind taking you to a vacant parking lot to drive a car for a bit. Learning how to park, accelerate, brake, etc. If you can--a driver's ed class would also help.

Study the written exam; I've heard it was the most difficult part for many people... to be honest it's been a very long time since I've taken a driving written test--so I couldn't help you on a difficulty scale.

Also--learn parallel parking. You may never use it as much, but it's the one most people fear.
  9. I'm 24 and I got my license two years ago. It took me 18 months of lessons but I still keep phone number of our local towing service here in NZ, just in case. Once they towed my broken car from the road near Auckland. So it's never too late to get your license through the school, then just take it slow and practice solo seeing the neighborhood. Good luck!
  10. 12 illegally and 16 legal but I'm old now lol. I never understood why some people put that off. Like most things it's just another skill to have. I mean I guess like in new York or something where it's just easier to walk. Out here in the boonies you have to drive everywhere.
  11. I recieved my license when I was in my teens and I had just a learners permit back then because that was all was needed to drive mopeds. Now I have a full license and a Chevy to get around in.

    How--dare you.

    Naw I kid :)
  13. I got one a few years ago, maybe around 23 because my parents bought a used car and my father is almost always not home so it was up to me to drive it
  14. I planned to get mine at 21 but due to health-issues I couldn't and it wouldn't be safe for me to drive so... nope
  15. It took me about 5 years, and from what I remember, 8 attempts, to get it, so I only got it in my early 20s. Been driving for over 6 years now with no problems. I think it also depends on where you live and what other priorities you have. If you're at uni, like I was, you might have no need for a car as you live right there on the campus, and so you might not get much chance to practice driving in those years.
  16. Was going to get mine, though people around here drive like morons and I still need to fully get to grips with the rules of the road, soooo... not yet, lol.
  17. I got a license as soon as I could, and managed to pass the road test on the first try. For those new to driving, do not forget to learn to drive defensively, and focus solely on driving. Distracted driving is very dangerous (i.e. don't be eating lunch while behind the wheel etc), but you will encounter others on the road who are not so focused.

My first car with an 05 Dodge Stratus, but now I have a 2014 Honda Civic. I prefer compact cars (the digital dashboard in the Civic is pretty cool too IMO).
  18. Well, Im 27 and dont have one and I dont plan to get one soon.
Reason is simple, its too expensive.
In germany it can cost up to 2000 euro.
Which is robbery In my eyes and I will not support that.
Also with so many silly rules here, Its probably not so much fun to have a car anyway.
  19. 28 and still haven't. You have to provide the car for the road test and they're strict on what's allowed.
  20. I got my license when I was 18 (i.e. as soon as I could), but it was probably mostly because I used to live in a countryside village. If public transportation is nearly non-existent and nearest shops, banks etc. are several kilometres away, owning a car and being able to drive it becomes very useful, if not almost mandatory. I haven't actually driven much at all since I moved to the city, though I sometimes borrow my parents' car when I visiting them just to maintain the skill.
