What's up guys this is DeadCrescendo!
I'm a washed up sort of Let's Player and musician whose here to get back into the glorious world of independent RPG game design! I first encountered RPG Maker on my friend Andrew's PS1 back when I was still in high school (Which is way too long ago.), That was an awful program, took a ton of memory card space and you really couldn't do much with it.
Somehow I imagine using an emulator would make it kinda decent. But I am ranting.
After dealing with the MESS that was RPG Maker 2000 (Don Miguel, our favorite English "Translator", we love you man.) I was pleased to try EVERY SINGLE RPG MAKER THAT CAME OUT. VX Ace is legit. I love it. And I can't wait to make some sweet games on it.
Anyway, that's about it. I'm a writer and a musician mostly, so if you need help writing or musician-ing please give me a holler.
Cheers! BD

Welocme and good to have you here! ^^
You may be interested in posting your services in the classifieds-offers, or even open your own workshop later so that people are aware of your availability.
It would be nice to have some samples up as well so that people will know what you are capable of.
Hope we'll see you around more often. ^^ -
Welcome to this amazing forum.
I agree, the PS One RPG Maker was such a huge mess, even the latest release named 4 wasn't really good to use.
Because even on PC you are limited to 15 blocks. >_>
RPG Maker 2k is only for real basic RPG's I guess.
RPG Maker XP is the first good one, with a lot of customization, but really hard layer mapping.
RPG Maker VX was the first who has everything you wanted so far and the Ace simply made the whole package better. The only thing I never understood, why they gone away from the basic resolution of 640x480. :distrust: (\s/) -
Welcome to the group!

The PS1 RPG Maker was terrible. My biggest lament was using the controller to move along each individual tile, SOOOO SLOWLY...and the amount of time consumed to make anything was...Jesus. I remember being so happy when I got it for christmas, spent countless months making a game with me and a friend sharing the one copy, and never actually finishing anything...
Did you ever finish any games with the program, Dead?
Welcome to the forums, how do you feel about helping to write endings for games already near completion? Open to some help on making the main story better, too, though. :p -
I'm open to helping you with your ending/story whatever. The PS1 RPG Maker was terrible. My friend and I once made a comedy RPG called "BIG SLIME GANGSTAS". Got like, 4 hours of gameplay into it and then I think we found Rm2K and never looked back.
Maybe I'll remake BSG in VX Ace. Though the humor would be dated, we made it back when Puff Daddy was still Puff Daddy.
I'll open up a workshop in time, thanks guys. -
Cheeky Moon, one thing VX didn't have is the multiple tilesets option.
I have no idea why they removed something so basic from the editor.
Also, I thought VX and VX Ace are using the basic resolution of 640 x 480. -
No these two are using a resolution of 544x416.Also, I thought VX and VX Ace are using the basic resolution of 640 x 480.
But the most graphic cards puting a black bar upward and below of the screen to make it fit. ;)
VX also had the terrible problem, that suddenly the maker didn't wanted to open your project.
Because of some scripts that stay in conflict, happend to me more then once. That's why I never had more then a trial of it. (\s/)
Would be cool anyway to see, what kind of games you're doing. :)My friend and I once made a comedy RPG called "BIG SLIME GANGSTAS". Got like, 4 hours of gameplay into it and then I think we found Rm2K and never looked back.

But you can perhaps send a link to the outdated one, if there is one in exist. :D (\s/) -
You're right, Cheeky Moon.
I was so used to setting my resolution to 640 x 480 that I forgot about that default resolution. ^^
I also thought you meant the maximum resolution for the default dll. ^^
DeadCrescendo, looking forward to seeing your workshop and games! ^^ -
Hey, Cheeky, do you know about the High-Res Dll? It's unofficial, but Archeia has the go ahead from Enterbrain, so it's not illegal.
And Crescendo, how would I go about getting you in on the story? PM you a synopsis? Send you the unfinished game? (it takes maybe 20 mins from start to finish, no sound, no battles. just boring skeletron. I want to implement a stealth system and go that route, but I am still figuring it out) Or extract a transcript and send it your way? -
Welcome! I've heard stories about the horrors of the PS1 rpgmaker as well as 2k...fortunately I got started with 2k3 and loved it. Always great to see members with awesome skill sets! I'm a writer as well! Not much of a musician~
Hope to see you around and see the games you make! -
Unfinished game would be fine. that way I can just go through it and write down stuff as I go. :)Hey, Cheeky, do you know about the High-Res Dll? It's unofficial, but Archeia has the go ahead from Enterbrain, so it's not illegal.
