Creating non-standard sized events?

  1. I've created events in the past which were not the standard 1x1 tile size; however, I always used sizes which were the same as other things in the RTP, so I was able to use those for templates. This time though, I'm not sure how to do something.

I want to create an event which uses a sprite which is 96x192 (i.e. 2 normal tile-widths wide, and 4 normal tile-widths tall). However, I've tried and I'm unable to do this. Is this actually possible?

I've got the PNG image for the sprite, which is at the correct measurements. Do I have to do something with the ! and $ symbols in the filename?
  2. Yes the ! and $ play a huge part in how the files are formatted. Try putting an $ in front of it and it should work then.
  3. You can read about what they do in the help file, I suggest you start there and come back with any additional questions. Or, as suggested, try it and see what happens.

Note that event triggers like "player touch" will only work for the actual square that the event is on.
  4. Your spritesheet needs to be 3 times the width of an individual sprite and 4 times the height, and start with $. That should let you choose it as the sprite for your event.

It'll still only show the 48x48 portion in the editor, but will display properly when you play.

Note that a sprite that size will be centered on the tile, with 1/4 extending to the tile to the left, and 1/4 to the tile to the right. If you want it to be flush over two map tiles, you'll need to make each sprite large enough to cover 3 tiles wide, and only put it in the first two, or the last two tiles.

I did (the section on "Asset Standards"?) - but I'd forgotten that the game regards event graphics as "characters" (like it doesn't make a distinction) so I hadn't quite grasped that they needed to be set out in the same way. That's why I came to ask the question.

    Noted, thanks! :LZScheeze:

Thanks all! Great advice, I'll try it next time I come to look at it!
