  1. So I don't think this is the right place but the forums are pretty much a mix. There is not even a word called Map on the entire forum index view so sorry ahead if this is a mix up location..

So I'm not good at mapping. Never was never will be. I'm more of the guy who enjoys filling things in like mobs, few tree's events, cave entrances that sort of thing a content filler. But I'm tying to learn some mapping and large scale mapping at that. My big hope, need, want etc, is a large zones. From here there be dungeons and I guess other small playing fields. In the main world I will try to keep events down and keep cities on their own zones. For the most part I will just use the mobs that roam I guess the best performance random movement mobs that when you touch them they enter combat? I'm not sure but I hear the search or seek mobs that get near you cause a lot more lag.. If that is a true then a map this size would be lag heaven...

So what I have is big circle... Most people would never see this unless your zoomed 1/8 then yeah... Once it's more filled in you don't clearly see it this big.. It's a 400 x 225 example map learning how to map btw.. Reason such an odd size is because it fits my monitor lol..

So you can see here I was building a river.. You might ask why is the grass like that.. Simple the next picture I will show you what happen if I did not create a third circle with Shift grass what would happen. So I have 4 tiles I placed. Water fill, Sand, Grass, Shift grass inside the grass...

Because if I did not shift grass in the center you end up getting crazy stuff like this:

I guess now you see why I filled it with Shift grass... So now I would just take the edges of the river and just fill it in with the (grass) sand tile :) OR WOULD I!!!

And now I have a headache.. I watched and read a few great tuts. I guess I'm just an idiot also. I miss the very old days where things were so basic there was no nice edges you know pong map making :p It's to bad there is not full size landscale generators then go from there for someone like me who might never be able to do this right.

Thanks for your advice and suggestions. Please take it easy on me and make it clear as possible.. Meaning actually speak English not my kind of English that is gibberish :p
  2. All I will say is that is an absolutely HUGE map, and I think you are going to have a lot of lag. I seriously recommend breaking it up into smaller maps, and using things like cliffs, large areas of trees, water, etc, to restrict movement away from the edges.

I have a script that will let you break your very large map into a grid of smaller maps (all the same size) and automatically transfer you to the next map when you reach the edge. I think there's also another script that will let you see a part of the next map as you approach the edge of the one you're on.

As far as actually mapping, I can't be of much assistance (except to say you posted in the right place ;) ) - I don't like the Ace style of mapping (or rather the mechanic) so I've pretty much avoided it myself.
  3. you need a guide on shift-clicking. I'm terrible at explaining things.
there is a big difference betweenshift+left click and shift+left click after shift+right click. This difference is what you need.
  4. There is a guide to shif-click mapping that explains the four different ways to use shift and how it affects the resulting map structure.

If you follow the link in my signature, that tutorial is linked there.
