"Come and visit Cope Island, where your dream holiday quickly turns into a Beat 'Em Up with your darkest demons hidden in the deepest depths." - IndieIce.com

    Estimated Time: 30-60 minutes
    Genre: Turn-Based RPG

    ~ About ~

Find yourself on a mysterious island, where you gain score by tackling turn-based RPG battles in the least amount of turns possible with a small selection of randomized weapons. Choose Standard for a more relaxed approach to the island, where the only penalty to losing is a loss of score and save points are frequent; or choose Rogue, where there are no save points and dying is permanent.

    ~ Gameplay ~

The battle menu consists of four options: Attack, Weapons, Techniques, and Standby.

    1403988208_81936237Picture%208.png

Attack is the standard attack, weaker than your weapons, but it restores 20 HP to yourself no matter if you hit or miss.

Weapons tend to be stronger and more useful than Attack, but it lacks the healing properties of the standard attack; however, every attack with a weapon, whether it lands or misses, gains 1 Technique Point.

    1403988120_884360049Picture%204.png

Techniques are the Weapon's special abilities and tend to be quite devastating when you are able to unleash them. You gain Techniques by using a Weapon a certain amount of times, and each Weapon has its own Technique. You must gain Technique Points by using Weapons in battle.

Standby takes up a turn to greatly restore the user's HP.

As you proceed through Cope Island, you will gain more actions per turn, which results in a simple yet complex battle system. The faster you complete a battle, the more score you receive.

    ~ Music ~

Each section of the Island has its own original background music to represent the atmosphere and emotions of the personal trek through Cope Island.

The voting has ended, so the purpose of this thread is to get my game out there and to gain some helpful feedback. The goal of this project for me was to do something I had never done before and just make a good game.

I have played many good games in this contest already, so whether I win or lose, in the end I just want to make an enjoyable experience.

So I hope all who tries enjoys. Feel free to give as much feedback as you feel necessary.
  2. I demand more attention to this game guys, it's 100% RTP (except for the music) but it's one of the best of the entire contest...I'm totally serious here. You want to know why? The Battle System.

The Battle System is pure gold and even if you can control only one character the game is very fun to play, plus the battles require a lot of strategy to win and the plot is interesting.

The mapping is fine, nothing excellent but nothing bad either, it does the job well.

    Some questions to the developer:

What's the purpose of saving the game at the end?

Have you ever thought about adding a New Game + mode? Or maybe you can add just a screen to display the final score, that would be a good addition I think.

I finished it in 32 minutes and my final score is around 16000 (I fought the secret battle too).

It caught me off guard tbh, this game is a little gem and an unexpected surprise...everyone should play it at least once.

Great job! If this is your first game then you're on the right path to be an excellent developer.

I think I'll try the Rogue Mode now.

I would love to have just a screen to display the final score, but I don't think I had enough time to do that haha. So the save at the end was just for the final score.

New Game + I find would not fit for a game like this, since the score is supposed to be about how good you did with the weapons you were given. I would like a better status screen that shows what scores you got with what weapons, but I was close to missing the deadline as it was. =p

And that's a good score and time, especially for the first play.

Thank you for the kind words. It is not even close to my first RPG Maker game, been playing around/working with various versions of RPG Maker since I was 11 (21 now), but I feel like it's my first I'm willing to show to the world and that I'm good enough to actually make good games now.

I also hope you enjoy Rogue mode. It adds a tension that Standard mode lacks. I just wish I could have done something like Dungeons of Dredmor, that lists every time you die and how far you made it, haha.
  4. Isn't this in the wrong forum? I'm pretty sure I've never seen this IGMC Entry before....

    Ah... I stand corrected.
  7. My biggest congratulations for the 3rd place, zDS! Now hopefully people will listen to me and play the hell out of your game, ahahahah. Seriously guys, give it a try...it's really worth it. ;D
  8. Well color me curious. Sorry I had overlooked this!
  9. This just didn't look good so I didn't play it. But I think that's why it was underrated. Because everyone looked at all the prettier entries. Whereas I get the feeling that this game has solid gameplay. Well done on 3rd place! I really want to play this now just because I'm curious how such a plain-looking entry (no offense intended, but the graphics aren't exactly eye-catching) could be so good. I'm reckoning it's because the gameplay is awesome.

    Looking forward to playing this!
  10. Glad to see this getting some love, finally. It was painful to see it ignored so much. Could I recommend you post it on RMN as well?~

    I second this.
  12. Inspiration hoooo~!

Had a chance to play this for a little bit, and I was blown away.  The combat is phenomenal, along with the item collection (I luuuurve items!)  At it's shell it appears to be just a simple RTP game that we pass up every day.

Let this game show that a great game can be made with RTP.

Congratulations on your win, it was well deserved.  And third to RMN, so I can boast about it on there, and hopefully it'll get more attention now then it did before your victory.

Thousand thanks for all the support! I shall make an account and post there. It was already one of the first things I had planned to do after this contest was over. Out of all the things I learned from this, I think the most important one was just how important it is to get yourself heard.

And thanks to all who are giving kind words. I always had the worry that using the RTP for graphics would make the game easy to ignore, but I do not regret doing for it challenged me to step it up in other regards.
  14. Just finished it,25645 score :D

    but more importantly

the thing i enjoyed most about this  was the message the game was trying to get across to the player.

as i interepted it anyway was

    Spoiler
Everyone has things like depression, anger, fear, lust ect as part of there being

things that make them weak and not make rational/clear decisions

to fight and destroy your inner demon

is  to overcome such things and become a better/stronger person that people can not only respect but depend on

the concept here really is simple

    as a idea

but its something thats very hard for most to do

rather noone i have seen can do

some may say religious do but they are forgetting

    they belive out of fear

    fear of going to hell

greed of wanting eternal life while not appeciating the one they already have...

if this trial was real a lot of people could benifit from going thru trials

to survive and learn whats really important in life
i highly recommend this, delivers a strong message and can be finished in under 1 hour
  15. I overlooked this due the screenshots but after playing it, I was positively surprised. The gameplay is solid even if it uses mostly default scripts and basic mapping. This is another point, for RTP mapping this is truly artistic without achieving it by cluttering the map.
  16. remind me again why this game isn't on rmn so I can give it a glorious review?
  17. I know, right? I don't believe zDS is an active member, although he/she totally should be. There's a lot I would want to learn from such a person about battles and such.

This game is fantastic, btw. I never got to write a review about it but I will. Just for now, though - fantastic combat system, sleekly designed, and bringing gameplay, progression and even story down to its roots.
  18. Why do I keep picturing Goof Troop for SNES when I read about this game. Now I got to go play it.
  19. Played it. Loved it.

    This is a brilliant game.

    Love the combat system ;)

More people should recognise this games brilliance! It doesn't look too appealing, but underneath that is a 100% genius creation.
