Combining Tilesets

  1. Hey, guys.
I have the following tilesets that I found at http://nanikasiratkool.web.fc2.com/menu02.html. I was wondering if someone could combine these into one or more tileset graphics for use in RPG Maker VX Ace. Thanks.

  2. I've moved this thread to Resource Requests. Please be sure to post your threads in the correct forum next time. Thank you.
  3. I'm not sure what you're asking for.

Tile sheets B-E have a max size of 512x512.  (A is a different story all together.)  From the looks of it, you're not going to have enough room for all of that.  You're going to have to pick the parts you want and make your own sheets.  Making your own tile sheet is on the easier things to do.  Knowing how to do this on your own will make things way easier for you in the long run.

Also do not forgot to keep track of who's tiles you're using so you can give proper credit later!!!

Download and install GIMP if you do not have a photoshop like program to use.  Gimp is what I use, and it's FREE!

    http://www.gimp.org/

Make a new sheet 512px by 512px, and click the ADVANCE OPTION tab and change FILL WITH: to TRANSPARENCY

Then go to IMAGE > CONFIGURATION GRID and change the SPACING to 32 wide by 32 Height, then OK.

Then go to VIEW and check off SHOW GRID and SNAP TO GRID

The proceed to cut and paste what you want into the that new tile set.

When you're done, don't save, go to EXPORT instead.

Select where you want to export it to, and change FILE TYPE to PNG IMAGE.

Then export it into RPG Maker.

MAKE SURE TO SET THE PASSABILITY OF THOSE TILES AFTER YOU IMPORT THEM!

  4. I unfortunately cannot get GIMP to work on my PC. I'm still trying to find out why. Otherwise, I would not have asked.

Also, I would think that splitting the graphics up between multiple pages in the tileset (e.g. B-E) would work better.
  5. Even split into several tile sheets, you may well not get all of those on to just 4 tile sheets, therefore you have to select which ones you want for the particular map you have in mind.  No one else can do that for you, so no one else can compile your sheets.

If GIMP won't work on your computer, try paint.NET which, I believe, also supports transparency.  (This is not the paint program that comes with Windows.)
  6. *sigh* How is it that whenever I ask if someone can do something, everyone assumes that I am able to do it myself? If I could, I wouldn't ask!

As for choosing tiles, thank you for letting me know that these tiles would go over the (in my view highly arbitrary and pointless) tile limit. I will see what I can do about reducing this, and potentially turning it into multiple tilesets.

But again, if I ask if someone can do something, I usually do not have the means to do it myself. My computer is not a very good one, and neither GIMP nor paint.NET seem to install properly on it. Don't ask me why, I do not know.

EDIT: I have found out that you can set transparent/translucent colors when you import to RPG Maker. I'll do this in MS Paint. Thanks for the help, such as it is.
  7. You've misunderstood something. Everyone isn't assuming you can do these things yourself, everyone is expecting you to. If you want to use tiles like that, you put them into a tile sheet yourself. If you can't do that, then you don't get to use those tiles. That's how it works. Just because it's hard for you doesn't mean it's someone else's responsibility to do it for you. To put it another way, this is the artistic equivalent of asking someone to event a cut scene for you. People aren't trying to be mean and exclude you, they're trying to let you know that this is part of your job as the person making your game and telling you politely how to do that job.
  8. As highly arbitrary and pointless as the tile limit might seem.  Unfortantly it is what it is.  There are limits to what you can do with the RPG Maker software.  Even with scripts you can only do so much.  Believe it or not, I was trying to help you.  As the expression goes, "if you give a man a fish he is hungry again in an hour. If you teach him to catch a fish you do him a good turn."  Sometimes knowing how to do it is way better then always having to rely on others to do it for you.  (Usually a lot quicker that way to!)
  9. The problem here is: I am not asking for people to do everything. I was under the impression that this forum was here to help people out with the things that they cannot do, so that a lack of experience, knowledge, or resources was not a barrier to being able to create a game for personal enjoyment or sale. I believe that is also the purpose of the software.

The error is mine. I came to a help form seeking help. Clearly, that was too much to ask.

No it wasn't. It's reasonable to expect you'll learn these skills eventually, but there's no reason not to provide some kind of assistance as well when you're starting out; nobody expects people to start swimming in the deep end.. I guess the best analogy I can think of in this case  is when the hero brings materials to a blacksmith and asks him to craft a sword. He then lives with the results, and may well learn how to forge swords himself; but no-one expects him to start out an expert.

(Oh, and Xcom, the best approach, AFAIK, is to give the man a fish, then a fishing lesson— you don't seriously expect him to learn on an empty stomach, do you? :p )

When you originally posted, you didn't know that the tilesets are limited in size - and as a result you didn't realise that there are practical limitations that prevents other people to help you with that.
Because the tilesets are limited in size, you cannot make one tileset for the entire game - any game that goes beyond minimum usually needs a lot of slightly different tilesets for slightly different maps.

What usually comes up as a result is a number of tilesheets with the most used tiles, and in each tileset one or two tilesheets that will be replaced based on what tiles you need for the current map.

But no one else can know what you have planned for your maps, and because of that only the mapper can create those tilesheets with the tiles he/she currently needs. And that is the reason why no one could help you, and only point you to how to do it - we simply didn't know which parts of those tiles you will need for which map, and they can't be all placed in a single tileset.
  12. And again, thank you for informing/reminding me of the limit. Now that I know that, if someone does come forward offering to help (which would be quite a surprise, by the way), I would be able to tell them.

There is method to my madness, as insane as it may sound.

Do not be surprised; I for one would help you. As the others said,  it would in many ways be difficult, as you'd need to be quite specific: I need the green trees from Mt1-6 on an upper tile with the Family Mart sign."  and so forth.  I'm grabbing the set mixer myself to try it as i have some experimenting of my own to do. See what you can do in the maker first, and experiment, then perhaps we can help. *Edit8I for one am having trouble with those two makers..
  14. Thank you again.

Thank you!! I have been trying to figure out how to create tilesets, this is amazing.
