Codex or Journal

  1. So... I've seen plenty of quest log scripts, and a super nifty bestiary.

    But quest logs make things too easy for players who should be paying attention in the first place. XD

    Instead what I'd like is to have something that Dragon Age used, which were codex entries. You'd find bits of paper, books, etc in your travels and the lore would be added for the player to read (or not) at their leisure. Having a complex fantasy world that I do, I'd like to be able to have this kind of information for the player in a Journal scene. It would need to have categories ofc, like... "Story" (up to the current point) "Locations," "Characters," and maybe "History." And whatever else the scripter feels like adding - or even just the functionality to add new categories as players see fit. That doesn't seem impossible, given there's a menu script that allows us to add and remove selections. This one, in fact: http://forums.rpgmakerweb.com/index.php?/topic/6418-xs-menu-delux/?hl=menu

    Some examples for what I'm after:

    Did find a good one from The Witcher, though:http://images.anandtech.com/reviews/games/2008/witcher/witcher-locations.jpg
  2. *Badump* What if I offer a skill trade for whoever scripts this? :u I can do art, beta reading, be a sounding board... Can PM me if you want examples. I'd offer money but I'm a broke college student. XD;;
  3. why can't you use one of the existing journal scripts for this? The CSCA encyclopedia has a custom option for this, and there are a few other options on the master script list.
  4. I'm using Modern Algebra's Quest Log script to do just this. It's pretty easy to use and customize.
  5. I dug through everything... Nothing looked like what I needed. I'll look again though, thanks.

    Seriously, this script here will allow for exactly what you say you want. You can easily customize the script to change it from a quest log with objectives and such to an adventure journal, with notes about characters, places, and events. With script calls added to events, you can add pages to your journal.
  7. I'll give it a go. Thank you!
