  1. "To have brothers and sisters...

Being an only child; it's always been

a dream of mine to have a team like

    in the games I play."

"You want to escape this life.

    I can see it.

    That's why I'm here."

    Storyline:

For every dreamer, there will be one group of dreamers who have their dreams realized, no matter how unrealistic they may be. The story starts off with one such dreamer by the name of Chikae, a gamer not unlike ourselves who also harbors a great longing...he desires to have the same camaraderie that the hero and his party have.

He's been supplementing this by joining in on the local gangs, something his own mother has no problem with, however, Chikae wants more, just as we always do. To save a damsel in distress and stop an ultimate evil from destroying the world, among other things. That's why he plays his favorite RPGs; an escape. Escaping from a world that he feels he doesn't belong, and from a person he doesn't believe he is.

One day when begrudgingly putting down his controller to head back out into the gang life, a voice comes from his T.V. offering him the escape he so much desires. The world full of people to save and evil to slay...what he did not count on was how played-out his dream really was. Will he keep his sanity as many played out video game story elements encroach his every step?

    The Game World:

Welcome to the world of Esoterra, housing the four crystals, powered by the four maidens, which keeps asleep an ancient evil, which may or may not be manipulating a power-hungry villain into releasing it even sooner from its slumber.

Does any of this sound familiar? It should if you've played a number of wonderful J-RPGs, just as Chikae himself has. Now, imagine having to live it knowing what may or may not happen based on an everflowing experience from the genre. From the plains, to the deserts, to the ice cold frozen tundras, Chikae's journey will be wrought with danger.

And, believe it or not, a great number of surprises on the way. Also laughs...can't forget the laughs.

    Screenshots:

I don't have too much to showcase, being in its early stages, but here are a few screenies!

    Spoiler

    Features:

    - Storyline that offers a humorous and/or new spin to common clichés.

    - Eight playable characters with their own backstories and side stories.

    - World Map that offers lots of hidden and not-so-hidden opportunities to explore Esoterra.

    - Elements each with a unique status effect that works on enemies weak to that particular element.

    - Status effects from elements both have a positive and negative side. EX: Fire causes burn which deals a % of damage over time but doubles melee physical attacks.

    - Levels hold new meaning with the Card Boost System! Levels (Named as ranks) when increased gives the player increased stat boosts after every normal battle. So at rank 3 against a rank 5 enemy troop, selecting an attack card from the boost system will increase attack by 8.

    - Introducing the Card Boost System, which lets the player pick a random stat boost or new skill after winning a normal battle. Each boost is done separately for each character that participated in battle.

    - A simple item crafting system in order to create new items, weapons, armors, accessories, key items, and skills.

    - A bestiary that will let you check an enemy stats and weaknesses.

    Beta Testing:

I will be releasing each chapter in an episodic format in order to get the best testing possible for future and current parts of the game. This way more than one critical eye will be helping the general public download a bug-free and balanced game. If you're interested in testing the game; let me know! Must have at least 10 posts as more insurance that you're sticking around in our community.

Some examples of things I am looking for from testers:

    Spoiler
    - What game mechanics stand out as a fun and what game mechanics hinder an enjoyable gameplay experience.

    - Mapping errors

    - Making sure the dialogue/story makes perfect sense, and any grammar problems you may come across.

    - Any event/script bug found in game. (Game crashing or otherwise)

    - What you think could make the experience even more memorable.

  2. Wow, this looks and sounds really great, especially the story. :D

    Can't wait to see more!
  3. Just read the story and it seems very interesting, love it that your taking a new spin on the clichés! Definitely will be following this. :3
  4. The Card Boost System looks fun. Do you use a script or do you just have it set as an event after every battle?
  5. Thanks for the comments everyone!

    @servantb7

It's completely evented. It's done through a number of common events.

Updated the screenshots section with three more screenies; the project is coming along just fine. I have three more major places to map before my mapping is done; at least for the demo I have in mind.
  6. yesssssss I love this sort of story, there's so much potential for humour. your maps are really pretty, I can't wait to check out a demo :)
  7. Any chance on being able to get ahold of the eventing process for the card system? Would be a god tier system to use, not a whole lot done with my game yet so looking for newer ideas to implement (newer to rpgmaker) to make it more interesting.
  8. @vociferocity

I'm glad you like it. Since the main character also experienced the cliches I have in mind in more than a few games; I think it'll add more humor to it, like being self-aware without breaking a 4th wall.

    @skmagiik

I don't really have anything I'm afraid will be "stolen", so to speak, so I'll be releasing my demo unencrypted for those who want to take a look at how I evented things. For some that's half the fun of downloading a rm game.

For everyone: Based on my real life workflow, I've estimated the demo's release time to be at the end of this month. Unless someone wants to help test out the game for bugs before the forum-wide release (As I may not catch/see everything by my lonesome); I will have a download by that time for everyone here who wishes to play my game.

In other words...looking for whoever is interested in beta testing Cliché Story. If I get a bite, I'll rectify my main post to reflect the search. I'll be looking between five and seven members of the community who have at least 10 posts or more. The 10 posts are more so I know the person is more likely to stay in the community by the time a demo is ready to be tested.
  9. I'd love to test the game out, if you'll have me. :3
  10. This sounds absolutely fascinating, I'll be watching it closely!

And would totally love to help test it!
  11. I'd love to help beta your game!
  12. As you have previously stated that your looking for testers, I would love to test this game, if you wouldn't mind. Echoing what I posted earlier, The idea of putting a new spin on the good old rpg clichés really appeals to me. :3
  13. Thanks for the offers everyone!

I thought to myself once at least three people took interest to add it to the main post, and I get back online to see just that, so I've added my desire for beta testing in the main post. I'll be looking for three more, so if anyone wants to help see this game succeed, then by all means apply for beta testing!
  14. Sounds great! Like the maps too :3 I look forward to seeing this come along :D I wonder if you're including one of the cheesiest cliches as the ending for this? ;D
  15. @Ryan

I think you read my mind, but the cheesiest cliche (I even said it was to a friend of mine) will be inverted in such a way that makes it interesting; plus it won't be how it ends since I can't stand endings like that. It'll be the cliche I have (and you may have) in mind, but at the same time it won't be...it wouldn't make sense unless I explain it, but I'm not giving away a major plot point! xD

In any case I'm debating whether or not to enter a certain contest. If I do, then the release date may be pushed back, depending on how far I go that extra mile to make my entry stand out. This is assuming I actually go for it.
