Character image in dialogue

I am posting on behalf of a friend of mine, he needs a bit of help:

I'm in a bit of a need for help with my project right now. I'm working on a system where one of the main characters constantly changes between armors, and all the skills are based on which armor is in use.

Their armors are not items though, but different states.

Now comes the point where I need help:

I'm using a script that displays full body character images during the conversation, and I'd like to have my armor-switching character's picture to rely on which armor she's currently using.

So for example if she's in 'x' armor's state, the picture should display her wearing that.

How could I pair up the pictures with the different states?

Every bit of information helps.
