Can I make a good world map using High Fantasy Resource Pack?

  1. Apologies in advance if this is the wrong forum for this question.

I love the lush style of the High Fantasy resource pack, but I am stuck trying to figure out how to create a good world map for my newest game.  The RTP makes it easy by having a specific set of world map tiles.

And it appears all of the outdoor tiles are great for a field-level view, but not for a high-level world view.  For example, showing a tiny set of mountains for a mountain range.

Anyone else who uses the High Fantasy Resource Pack find a great solution to this little problem?

    Thanks.
  2. The main problem is that the HF packs do not contain world map sized tiles - if I remember correctly PVGames stated somewhere that they were intended for games without specific worldmaps, but with continuous field maps (like the later Ultima series).

And since no one else makes similiar styled tiles, there is no alternative source for world map tiles in that style that I know of.

However, I'm also interested - if there are enough people interested, perhaps we can get some artists to make a small set as requests...
  3. That explains why they don't have any in that style.  I know some tilesets like the Future Tiles, have "general enough" tiles like skyscrapers that I can shoehorn them into world tile use (make a tiny skyscraper for a city).

Also, some are compatible with the look of the RTP, so those can neatly use the RTP's good basic world tiles.

That would be great, Andar! The alternative for me otherwise would be to use 3D mapmaking software or GIMP...
  5. Actually, I was thinking.  If the High Fantasy models are 3-D models, would it be difficult to make, say, a Mountain, Forest, Swamp, Ocean, Castle, Town, Cave, Magic (whatever), Roads and other useful world tile types, using the HF models and color schemes, then zoom way out for the view, and make those the World Tiles for the HF set?

To me, if someone had those models it would probably be far easier than modifying the 2-D HF renderings.  Granted, I'm not an artist and have no idea how hard it truly is, but it sounds reasonable.
  6. PVGames takes requests now and then, it's worth asking about. Alternatively, you could make a world map that actually looks like a hand drawn map, then you could have it a completely different style and it wouldn't clash at all.
