Mine would have to be Space Quest, Incinerations (release, January 2012). Which, I find it funny that my best modern game I've played in the last three years is a free fan game.
-
Probably MGS Ground Zeroes. It's one of the most fun games I've played in a long time and one of very few that provides legitimately interesting challenges. I've got about 60 hours clocked and I still haven't beaten some of the challenges.
-
I don't really play games anymore :/ I've played a bit of some smaller titles on steam that I enjoyed though...
One being: Dust, An Eylsian Tale
Oh! Now that I'm looking at my steam account, I really liked Far Cry 3 too! Almost finished it even, and I'm notorious for getting bored and quitting games usually before the half-way point. -
@Euphoria : I loved Far Cry 3 too.Looking forward to the 4th.

Shadowrun Returns is probably one of my favorites, even though I didn't buy it when it came out and I completely forgot about having bought it on sale. I discovered it lying in my library last week and I'm hooked.
It has one of the best stories ever - both the original and the DLC, a flexible characterization system, awesome user created content and most importantly possibly the best setting I've seen in a long time. I just love everything about it.
I played tons of games, so it's hard for me to say which are my favorites, but Shadowrun Returns is definitely somewhere up there.
I'd recommend it to anybody who has at least a vague interest in RPGs and fantasy / sci-fi. -
I haven't looked up the 4th yet, but I've heard good and bad things about people's opinions on the setting or how it looked or something.@Euphoria : I loved Far Cry 3 too.Looking forward to the 4th.

I recently finished The Last of Us and I thought it was a pretty good game. Also Child of Light, other than that its been mostly ps2 when it comes to gaming for me.
-
Elsword.
Hands down best MMORPG. -
Man. This was a bit difficult for me because you said modern game and my mind immediately went: NIER but that was 2010. Then Deus Ex: Human Revolution... but no that was 2011.
Anyway, I can't pick just one, because I like all these games for different reasons, but these 4 are my favorite games of the last 2 years that I can actually remember:
Borderlands 2
The Last of Us
XCOM: Enemy Unknown
Spec Ops: The Line
None of them are on my GOAT list though. Maybe BL2. -
By modern you mean 2010 or later I guess?
Well... I have 60+ hours on Fire Emblem Awakening and 70+ hours on Pokemon Conquest, and I don't even care much for tactical games XD -
@Touchfuzzy : You may include 2010 or up games if they're really awesome.I've already played Nier, that sountdrack :| So awesome that I have no words to describe it.
-
Nier is GOAT quality to me. It has flaws but the rest of the game is so good I just don't care about the flaws.@Touchfuzzy : You may include 2010 or up games if they're really awesome.I've already played Nier, that sountdrack :| So awesome that I have no words to describe it.

Easily one of my all time favorites. It's always hard to get my friends to try it though. Either they stop too early (Forest of Myth is usually the culprit) or straight up don't like the way it looks. Although I do understand that many of them don't want to purchase the game because it is sort of rare, I believe it goes for around $30 used even.Nier is GOAT quality to me. It has flaws but the rest of the game is so good I just don't care about the flaws.
On topic, I just realized Risk of Rain came out in 2013, so definitely that game. Been playing a ton of it, great price and really fun. The recent Strider remake is very fun as well. Since you lowered the year to 2010, The Witcher 2 for sure. Both the storytelling and combat are incredibly well done, it's enjoyable the whole way through. -
Actually, for a while Nier was down to like, 12 bucks used at Gamestop. It still is super cheap i you can find it there. But its prices are starting to go "Cult Classic" lately and only costs are skyrocketing.
-
Yeah, I got Nier at gamestop for 4.99 a couple years ago. Probably the most surprised I've ever been at the quality of a game bought so cheaply. (I mean, for it to ever go that low it means that it had to literally fail to fluctuate when it came out, which is a shame as it's one of the most beautiful games I've ever played.) Basically Nier and The last of us are the only really recent games I've played and thought of and really enjoyed, both of which are great games though Nier is definitely the better game overall. State of Decay is a pretty good game as well, considering it's starting price and all, but it gets a bit to repetitive to truly be great and the dlc's, while they tried to keep it fresh couldn't build on the core gameplay enough to keep my interest any longer.Actually, for a while Nier was down to like, 12 bucks used at Gamestop. I got Nier for fairly cheap as well, and I love it.
One game I've been playing lately is The World Ends With You. It's a definite must-buy. -
Pokemon X & Y were a lot of fun. They really breathed new life into the series.
Bravely Default is another great one. I'm still playing that one, and the only thing I don't really care for are the late-game classes and DAT GRIND.
Kingdom Hearts 3DS was a lot of fun, but trying to keep the story straight made me go crosseyed.
Professor Layton --pretty much any of them. No other game has the power to elevate and crush your self-esteem in such rapid succession. -
The three games I've played over and over and over until death until I can now complete them in my sleep (and would be happy to try if not only to play them again and again and again) are The Last of Us, Dark Souls and Lone Survivor. Mannnnnnnn good games.

Does anyone here play Kerbal Space Program? A real gem of a game if you ask me.
