While searching for another topic a few months ago, I saw a suggestion by Andar about creating a transparent battleback. I would assume that, by using that, the actual game landscape, etc., would show as it is, rather than a created one? I would like some instruction as to how to accomplish this. I believe that I will need Gimp, which I am not too familiar with, yet. Also, would this work with visible and random encounters, as well?
Thanks

If I am not wrong using a transparent background image does not display the map you are in but a black background instead. However you can give it a try. Creating a transparent background is very easy after all:
- Open GIMP (or any other image manipulation program);
- Create a new 544x416 image (if your resolution is different create a new one using your game resolution) and be sure to select "Transparent" as default image background;
- Export that image in png format without doing any modification at all;
- Move that image in your Graphics/Battlebacks1/ folder (you can copy it in battlebacks 2 too if you want);
- Set your map background to use the one you just created;
- Run your game.
Once you do this you should be able to see if you can see the map you are in or a black background. If I am correct you should see a black background but testing it won't hurt you. -
Thanks for the reply. I will try that first chance I get. Afterward, I will report the results. Would I need one for battle back 1 and one for battleback 2 , also?

Battleback 1 on its own is enough.
