AntiVirus Software keeps flagging MV.exe

  1. I'm not sure if I'm posting this in the right place or not. I've redownloaded RPGMV for my latest game project, and I can't use it. Specifically, everytime I try to boot up the engine, my antivirus software keeps flagging it as potentially harmful and quarantine's it. I have to go into my antivirus control panel and remove it from quarantine in order to use the engine. This is the only engine I've experienced this problem. VX Ace, and XP never encountered this issue. Both engines and MV I bought from Steam.

Removing the exe file from quarantine did allow the antivirus software to ignore it after steam repaired it. But I want to know is there a way to tell my antivirus software to always ignore the exe file every time I try to use it. I'm concerned the antivirus will flag it again, as soon as i turn off my computer.

I use McAfee LiveSafe for antivirus.
  2. Nornally, antivirus softwares have a menu where you can put files or folders as exceptions to the scans etc. So find i your software has that and define the MV file or the whole folder as an exception
  3. As said, you'll need to whitelist MV until the AV company realises it's a false positive and corrects their heuristic search.

The reason for these false flags is because MV uses web technology to access local files (it needs to do this, it creates HTML5 games after all) and it is difficult for an AV to see the difference between a Website trying to infect local files and a regular local access.
  4. Thanks. I think I found the section of the control panel and have proceeded to mark MV as an exception. I hope it worked and I did it right.

I would like to know what normal antiviruses are? Because I tried some antiviruses (free) and there was no such menu. I read some reviews and comparisons, for example, avast vs mcafee. Maybe try such antiviruses?
  6. @Borio every AV has that Option. Sometimes its just a bit more hidden in the AVs configuration options.
  7. I use Avira for the past decade or so, its free and has that menu.. Our company computers have free SmadAv which also seems to have that capability.. My little bro used to have Kaspersky, its paid though.. I also used ESET Nod32 before and it has that too.

Yes, I am using Avast antivirus, and I think Avast is one of the best free antiviruses I have used.
