Good day all and welcome to another introductory tangent by a not-so-new member of the community for reasons not entirely understood by anyone. My name is Alexander Cain (Alexander Amnell on the forums, obviously.) I'm a 28 year old game-making hobbyist intending to release games under the moniker of 'happy puppy games' sometime in the future.
I am currently working intermittently on two games. The first will be the adaptation of a novel I wrote years ago and the second is a game I am working on with my children as a family hobby just for fun. I'm adept at eventing/database and numbers work and can write simple scripts when it suites me. I struggle with anything visually artistic but I'm trying to devote more time to learning such things, as I've always had a desire to create things through imagery; I just have no talent for it.
I enjoy all manner of games though I find myself having trouble finding time to play them these days. I'm an avid reader who will read virtually any book in existence if bored enough (the exception to this statement being the works of Lev Tolstoy and harlequin books) and I similarly can enjoy just about any genre of music (though to find country music I enjoy you have to go back to a time that I wasn't born yet, but it's doable). In short I like to think of myself as a well-rounded individual, I try to keep as broad a perspective on any given situation as possible but I'm also the first to admit that I'm still guilty of tunnel vision when I become too passionate about a given subject, but I try at least.
What I usually do here can be summed up in a single word; procrastinate. I've spent more time than I'd care to know that I could have been being productive on here instead doing things that have no purpose in game development. From posting random status updates about personal life stuff that no one else really cares about and getting into the occasional argument or 'watching' Indrah during her let's plays. (In reality I'm just enjoying the contrast between the rough words she uses and the softness of her soothing, accented voice while text-chatting with others that I suspect are mostly there for the same reason). Sometimes I'll actually be helpful by answering questions in the support threads or participating in some of the forum events but for the most part my time spent here is decidedly unproductive.
Since, as I said, I am not actually new here, I will end this divergent tangent with an acknowledgement of predilection. I enjoy everything about this community. Most of the moderators are professional, but also courteous and actively involved with the community rather than just running the community. The diversity found here is also something to be acknowledged. Look around and you'll find all kinds of outlooks and beliefs all interacting with civility (most of the time.) which is something that just isn't found often in this world, either online or even in real life for that matter. People here, for all of their varying opinions at the end of the day, most clearly prefer helping others and being constructive to being confrontational, and even those who choose confrontation are more likely to be tactful about it than in a lot of other forums I've seen. So to the community, thanks for putting up with this strange autistic wolf and accepting him as part of the community. For actual newcomers, jump right in but try not to procrastinate to much and this will be a place of peace and friendship to aid you in your game-making journey, whether you're aim is professional or personal, this is a great place to start.
Another belated interpolation

Oh well, this is what we can call "a very good introduction" not my silly crap, that's for sure.
Welcome to the forums(?) Alexander and don't worry too much about procrastination, I'm on the same boat too.
I believe that creating deadlines and\or breaking the tasks into smaller pieces while you start doing smaller things can help a lot to solve this issue(?), I'm not even sure...but it's starting to work for me. Also let's do things slowly, things rushed are usually badly performed and empty.
It's so awesome that you're working on a game with your children, this shows how close a family can be.
Regarding art, we're still in time to become artists (I'm also learning), Sharm said that Van Gogh started at 27y! So damn inspiring...
And keep posting your status updates, only because it's real-life related stuff this doesn't mean that we don't find them interesting and\or we don't want to reply to them.
Again welcome, and enjoy your stay! See you around here. -
I feel like I've been caught in a time loop, but welcome anyway!

You are older than me by a month. You people are worse than the old games being new releases on Steam. Just kidding.
Actually, all these belated introductions make me think, did I do this introductory post thing? I think I did.
PS.: Welcome? Though you should be the one welcoming me. But welcome. -
I'm enjoying these belated intros - it's so much easier to fit things together when it's someone you've seen on the forums for a while, and the details of the intros are much more likely to stick in my mind. I thought your intro was fascinating, so I'm glad you finally got round to doing it.
And, err, welcome to the forum.
