  1. It does seem like this year passed so quickly, but in a way, it's nice because I love seeing everyone's Advent Calendars! :) Thanks for participating again this year - the fire fairies look great! Looking forward to seeing what else you have in store for us.
  2. Your Day One is off to an amazing start! Can't wait to see the rest of the calendar!
  3. Great work !
  4. @LunarFlareStudios Is this the right moment to say I forgot that there's more than four elements? :aswt: Anyway, I've definitely written that down. ;)
@Ms Littlefish I know, right! And thanks. I actually felt very uninspired with my colour choices, so I'm glad that's just my insecurity speaking. Also thanks to the colours picked, she can also be an Autumn fairy.
@Starbird_Resources Yeah, I did the extra skintones just a few hours before posting. :kaoswt:
@ATT_Turan I mean why not? :D I got a similar suggestion from Avery. (Btw, what show/movie is she from?)
@Sword_of_Dusk Thanks, good to know. There's definitely going to be a lot variaty in the fairy department (whether people want it or not :kaopride:) Also suggestion noted ;)
@SeaPhoenix Thank you! Hopefully there will be something you can use in it :)
@GalacticGod Thank you! Good luck to you :D
    @Saneterre Thanks! :)
    2.png Just a Sci-Fi Girl
Last year I made some extra fantasy and modern kids. My initial idea was to also make some sci-fi kids to go with the default resources. Upon inspection I felt like the default SF is like 90% modern, and I was running out of time, so I switched to something else instead.
Still I wanted to really make them for this year's, the only issue was well what do people and especially kids wear in sci-fi? And also what type of SF is the most popular? Something like Star Trek or something more fantastical like Star Wars? I decided I didn't want to do military like uniforms for the kids, or medieval peasant garb recolored like Star Wars does. So I ended up searching for avant garde fashion as well as alt street fashion to get some inspiration. I hope you like her!

Would people prefer I post the SF boy next or another fairy or something else entirely? I don't have much of a schedule this time around, so let me know what you want to see next.

She is from The Neverending Story, you poor deprived person! :guffaw:

I think that style is quite versatile - it could be cyberpunk, it could be sci-fi, it certainly works for a Star Trek setting or any number of others. Probably not a low fantasy like Star Wars, but like you said - most of that would be using modern or older clothing anyway.

I think other characters in that style would be fun...something else, if it's in your wheelhouse, could be signs or consoles that have futuristic/holographic-looking displays. Maybe with walking frames of animation.

  6. I was thinking the autumn angle with the fairies too! To me, versatility is peak.

For today’s sprites~ I love how their fashion is really pushed out of the box with the different eye colors. Could be a fashion statement, could be a bio-hacking hi-tech eye implant. Who knows?!

I could imagine kids with something like booster shoes and jet packs. I feel like that’d be their version of skates and skateboards.
  7. Loving the addition of more faeries elemental types. Can never have enough of those! And you couldn't have done better than going avant garde with the fashion of the sci-fi girl. I hope we can see more people sprites in a similar fashion to flush out a sci-fi city.
  8. Wonderful addition. I think more sci-fi stuff would be great as there is far less of that type of resource available.
  9. I vote for the sci fi boy next !
  10. How is it December already?? Oh well. It's my favorite time of the year: Forum Advent Season!! <3
  11. @ATT_Turan Ooooh no, I did watch The Neverending Story as a child and I didn't like it and never watched it again lol. I should give it a rewatch at some point. Glad you liked the style I picked. Not sure if I'll do more yet (besides the ones I've already done of course).
@Ms Littlefish Yeah, I wanted the kids to have two weird eye colours, so they looked a little more out there. Hmm, that gives me an idea, but not sure if I'll be able to do it...
@Guardinthena Aww, thanks! I might do more (besides the ones you've already seen), though not sure yet.
@Kes Thank you! Agreed, there's not much out there and I believe it's mostly due to not knowing what sort of style to go with. There's just a ton more references for modern, fantasy medieval and even other time periods out there. I went back and checked the (futuristic) SF games I've played and even there it's just modern (black), athletic and military style. Apologies for my rambling.
@M.I.A. Like the song says It's the most wonderful time of the year :D
@Saneterre Well, then say no more ;)

    3.pngJust a Sci-Fi Boy
If our SF girl was inspired by Avant Garde, then our SF boy's get-up is inspired by street fashion. Like the girl, he has the same type of glasses as well as the same eye colour (though switched around). Unlike the girl his colourscheme is a lot more brighter. I had a lot of fun picking the colours :D

Are we sticking with Sci-Fi or do we go back to our fluttering fairies? (Or do we pick the secret third option?)
  12. I'd go back to fairies... unless the third option is something worth picking.
  13. Those bright colors you picked for the sci-fi boys are great! Definitely look like some kids who would offer fun side quests. I vote the third option, though more fairies would be a lot of fun too.
  14. Third option. I want to see what's coming. None of this "deferred gratification" stuff.
But whichever you pick now, I assume (presume? hope?) that you'll be doing the other two options at some time.
  15. You always do such unique characters, love these sci fi additions.
    More sci-fi please
  16. I love the sci fi boys. I'm voting for the secret option this time
  17. What’s fun for you is fun for us. Whichever option makes is most fun is the best one!

I love these more poppy pastel tones. I love how different these tones are but how easily they could be from the same universe, maybe even from different factions or quarters of the setting.

Never say that to a cannibal.
  19. @LunarFlareStudios I mean I think all I've made so far is worthwhile in general. :D (Though I like my fairies the most as well :p)
@hiddenone Thanks! Glad you like them :wub I don't know why, but I feel like they'd have some delivery side quests for the player.
@Kes Don't worry, I'm letting you pick between options that currently exist, so you'll eventually get all of them. ;)
@Candacis Aww, thank you so much. :wub
@Saneterre Glad you love them :D
@Ms Littlefish All options are fun (and already made), it's just that I'm not sure what order to release the calendar this year, since I'm only 40% done with it and have a harder time balancing it out. Glad you like them. :)

The majority picked option three, sooo
    4.png Here Comes the Bride
Back in October when I decided to join two game jams (terrible idea), I did get nervous about the calendar and it was suggested that I could at least release the stuff I made for the jam like I did last year. Unfortunately I didn't finish my initial game idea, so I'm keeping everything I made for that until I finish that game (someday, sometime). (For Pumpkin Decorating I only made a couple of things, so those will be released as part of a bigger day.) That did prompt me to go check out my other failed game jam attempts and see if anything in there could be shared. And lo and behold, in my The Juniper Manor game (attempt at Hawktober 2022) I had made a bride sprite (tall version though :p). I figured I'd remake it in default chibi form and share it on my obligatory 'Random Sprite Day'.
I ended up being unable to stop myself doing more recolours, so she's getting her own day:

    brides2.png
    brides3.png
    brides4.png
Obviously white for the bride, black for any unholy matrimony she might find herself into, and then we have red and purple being royal colours, and blue and pink since the original dress is from MZ's default princess. Last minute additions are green and gold. (I figured for historical purposes, it might be better to have some non-white dresses for weddings.)

Let me know, what you'd like to see for tomorrow? We can stick with today's nobility, or move back to fairies or Sci-Fi.
  20. This is awesome! I can't wait to include this somewhere in my game now. What a terrific resource!
