  1. My mom doesn't like me to download too much stuff to my computer, so I was wondering if there is a way to access the resource pack directly from a usb? I want to buy the modern graphics pack one. I would save it and download it to my usb, and then rpg maker would acces it directly from my usb, but when I took the stick out of the computer it wouldn't work. Is this possible. thanks. I don't know if this is the correct place to post this but, this is as close as I could think it to be. I am using vx ace.
  2. Well, I keep all of my extra resources on an external hard drive so it can work, you just have to remember to either copy and paste what you want to use into the proper sections in your project folder or use the Resource Manager to import the stuff (if you don't know, that's the button between the scripts and database; you can also press F10 to access it)

If you meant you couldn't access the files after the USB was removed from you computer, then you removed access to the files when you did so (that's generally what happens when you remove a USB) Though, if you made sure to import the files correctly, that shouldn't cause any problems. (either way the files should've been added to your project)

I hope that helps, though if that isn't the problem you may have to expand a bit more... (though the only other major thing I can think of is the resource packs usually come compressed, like I believe the Modern Day pack was a ZIP file, but don't hold me to that... I got it quite a while ago and my memory really isn't that great...)
  3. To access any non-RTP-files, You'll have to import them into the project you're working on.

But the source for that import can be anywhere - harddrive, optical drive, card drive, USB, doesn't matter.

Now, if your restrictions are imposed as a virus protection mesure, then you should note that some antivirus programs can disable all external drives to protect the computer from virueses - if that was done on your computer, then you can't access USB drives, and won't be able to do this anyway - a virus doesn't vanish from a file if that file is downloaded on a different computer.

If you can access USB drives, then you can get the resources on your computer this way.
  4. You can save the packs to a USB, but ANY resource in your game that isn't RTP MUST be saved into your game's resource folders.

This simply means the packs are on the USB, and as you choose some that you want to use, you copy them across as you need them.
  5. Ok. Thanks, but my mom wants them to not be on the computer at all, because they clog up the computer. I was wondering if there is a way to access the resources directly from the usb WITHOUT importing them or adding them the graphical/audio files.
  6. you can place your entire project on the USB drive, and open and work on it there - in that case, the imported resources will also be stored in the project folder on the USB drive.

However, in that case you need the USB-drive whenever you work on your project, you won't be able to open or play it without the USB because the project will not be stored on the computer itself.
  7. ok, that should work. Thank you.
