While thinking up ways I could make myself useful to the community, it occurred to me that I could offer to proofread game text for people. I do some proofreading for paying clients already, and thought I might be able to help people out with their games either for free or for a small fee. Would that be okay? If so, what board should the topic go in? Also, I checked the rules of the "Classifieds - Offers" board, but there's no proofreading category, so I was wondering what the rules would be if I decided to charge and wound up posting the topic there.

Alkorri already does this, you can check his topic :)

Oh, I didn't see that. Thanks. Though if he offers all that for free, I wouldn't feel right charging for my own meager services. Still, I suppose I could start a workshop just for the hell of it. If anyone's interested I can help people out a little while playing some games I might not otherwise.

If you want to do it for a fee, put it in Classifieds - Offers. Doesn't matter that there's no Proofreading category (tag) - make one :)
If you want to do it for free, have a look through Project Recruitment and see who's getting team members on board. They're not likely to ask for a proofreader, but you can tell based on the opening post in the thread whether they would benefit by having one. Then just offer your assistance in a PM. -
I can tell you now that my project is going to need a proofreader at some point. However, I'm only in chapter 3 (of 9). Would you want to proofread it as it goes, or when it is done?

Hotfirelegend, thanks for the vote of confidence!
TMS, you will notice I only offer free proofreading up to a certain number of words, and for playtesting/proofreading games not more than two hours. That's because it can be very time-consuming, and I have to earn a living elsewhere. Still I just thought I'd offer the service to the community while getting some exposure :)
Next month however I will be opening a dedicated shop in the Classifieds, and you can too :) -
Hopefully they won't have read this thread or they might get offended. lolThey're not likely to ask for a proofreader, but you can tell based on the opening post in the thread whether they would benefit by having one. Then just offer your assistance in a PM.
I might. I'll have to think it over. Come to think of it there may be some complications (like, I might get stuck and not be able to do the whole game).TMS, you will notice I only offer free proofreading up to a certain number of words, and for playtesting/proofreading games not more than two hours. Proofreading. That's a good one, and one I am good at as well! You don't think 3 is too many, do you? 3 proofreaders to divvy up the work. I personally won't be charging money, but would be definitely interested in some sort of trade.
