Ok, so, I'm back with another question. I'm sure the answer is easily available somewhere, but for the life of me I cannot find it. Ah, such is my lot in life! Anyhow, I'm working through tutorial 4, which is found here: http://s3-ap-northeast-1.amazonaws.com/bc2prod/rpgmaker-20130522223546811/files/RPGMakerVXAceTutorial4.pdf
I'm on page 9, and I'm creating the armors that are found on page 4. I've gotten through all of them...except the last one. Stealth Boots. And this one is giving me difficulty. Why? Because the special property for this one is "No Encounters". And as I'm finding out while going through the tutorials, there are some things that need to be explained that aren't, and this is one of them.
I did a search on the forums on how to turn off encounters, and I'm referenced to the map events and turning them off there. Which is fine, but...how do I turn off encounters when the boots are equipped? Is this something that will be covered in a later tutorial, such as scripting events?

Look under the armor tab and right click on the box to the right called features. Go to the other tab and party ability.... there you will find No Encounters.

One more advice:
after finishing with the basic tutorials, take a week to simply explore the editor and click on every button, every tab and every option, just to see their use - and don't forget the right-click in every list.
There are dozens or hundreds of small options "hidden" in the editor, and taking the time to search for them will speed up your later game making a lot. You don't have to remember where everything is, but just knowing that you have seen something before will help you in the long run.
It is one of the most important tips I gave new users in my starting tutorial (see link in my signature) -
And voila! Solved.
And thanks for the advice. I've been trying to play around in the editor at the same time I'm doing the tutorials, and I've seen that there are about eleventy bajillion options available; it's going to take a lot of time to get used to everything.
