Question #1
I have an event with a old lady graphic standing in the middle of the path. When you talk to her it starts a battle. How can I make it that after you win the battle she moves out of the path.
Question #2
I have a guy standing off in a corner, and I don't want the player to proceed with the game until after they have spoken with this man. So is there a way I can block off a path until after the guy is talked to.
Thanks in advance!

1) after the battle processing just continue on with the event using the Set Move route on the 2nd page under "Movement" to move her when she's done talking(if she says anything after the battle.
2) put a line of events that are activated on touch across the path and use the Set move route (again on the 2nd page under movement) to push the player back and use a show text under it to have the old man say something like "Don't go I need to talk to you first!". When you are done talking with him you then turn on/off a switch that will deactivate the events in the way so that they switch to a blank page. -
Hey thanks for the reply. Also could you help me with one more thing. I have a person who just vanishes completely after the battle. Do you know how I can make it, so he stays?

let me see the event. I can do almost anything with events.

No worries, I didn't understand it when I first started. but that was years ago.
the problem is you are turning off the switch at the start of the even't it common practice to turn off conditions for events at the END of what ever they are trying to do.
Event still you don't want them to just disappear, so move them toward an Exit, or turn on a self switch and activate a new page with an Idle graphic.
Lastly please remember to name your switches as it will help you remember what switch does what. -
Again thank you very much.
